Apologies if this isn't the right thread.. but does anyone know of someone to install a Westfalia canvas? I'm in the east midlands, will travel.
You, with a handful of helpers at Tech Ender's in Lutterworth early May...? Needs a bit of prep regarding having the bits to hand but @F_Pantos did his there last year was it...?
Yes, last year. If you have access to enough people to help lift the roof off and on, it makes lighter work It's a bit of a mind game working upside down with the roof on its back, but you get the hang of it, eventually. What you need us a decent staple gun, a new canvas, a new tack strip and some willing helpers and something to remove the old staples.
^ this is exactly what I'm doing right now and whilst it's not a difficult job, it is fiddly and extra help is the key part. I would add to that list, something to clean the underside of the roof as it could be dirty under there, screws and caps for the tack strip (depending on how you want to fit it). I have the NLAVW canvas and tack strip, seems good.
I bought mine from Alan Schofields, it was made by Wolfsburg West, it fitted without problems, I thought it was nicely made, I must say. I have no personal experience of the NLAVW one.
I guess I'll find out at the weekend when I try and get it on the bus. So far it's gone into the frame fine and the measurements align to the one that came out, so I'm hopeful..
Apparently, it was too short. I searched and found this: https://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/westfalia-roof-canvas-from-nla.88098/#post-1696570 NLAVW claim that their Westfalia Canvas is a faithful replica of the original but they don’t actually state that it will fit. I’ll be a bit miffed if it doesn’t, even the JK one that is on the bus now is a good fit, and if JK can make one that fits anyone can.
I fitted a new one last year .Bright orange ,rear hinge, three window/openings and brought from Just Kampers it was made by Gunz or something like that .Great fit and quality .I have a electric staple gun and the correct galvanised staples if you wish to borry them . Long winded job but achievable as long as you pre plan and do not rush .
If you search on this website 'Fitting a new Westie pop top canvas ' you can get some info that may help .Sorry for not copying link (phone operator issues). The staple gun and staples offer is available to any Late Bayer (and even prototype bay) just pay postage costs please
Tack strip, new seals, refurbed hinges, fringe and struts back on, so ready to go on the bus as soon as my lifting party is available at the weekend. Fingers crossed it actually fits after all this.
The tack strip - I think you're supposed to fit it so the canvas heads upward (when it's the right way up) then back down over the strip so it supports the canvas all the way along and is hidden by the canvas. How you have yours it's not really doing anything? I'll try and find a picture...
