  1. Popped my top for the first time in a year, cleaned out ten pounds of leaves and spiders...

Drove to Swansea, was a bit slow carrying all the extra boxes of stuff for my daughters flat, going up the hills on the M4..
The spider I took out of the bus before we started didnt make enough difference to the weight.
Drive down to the waterfront to pick up a takeaway from Gigi Gaos Chinese restaurant.

Tightened up the gearbox coupler clamp bolt.. it was neither really loose nor tight enough. First and second gear kept getting hard to engage, then really easy, so when it stopped raining, out with a spanner in Swansea to tighten it. Back to consistent - will tweak it tomorrow.

A trip to find a Japanese restaurant in the Mumbles turned into a trip to a Mountain Warehouse sale to buy new dry waterproof clothes for some of the family...
At least we got cake and a coffee from a coffee place before getting really soaked.

We ended up buying fish and chips from a place in Swansea near the stadium.
Livened up by Shirley knocking the handbrake off while fighting with wet clothes, and the bus nearly rolled off the edge of a steeply sloped car park outside the chippy , down some steps... The nose was like the Italian Job but the wheels still had another 50 cm to go..

Redid the pop top roof lining after the last one got water damage but it had lasted 12 years
Might varnish next to help it last another 12years.

Adjusted the rear brake drums after the 410 mile drive on Saturday and Sunday - they were all new shoes and drums before setting off..

Re did the gearbox coupler bolt, this time with a hole drilled through it so a wire would stop it unwinding and falling out . Then loosened the bolts and knocked the EMPI shifter 1mm to the right to make it easier to hit first and second gear.

Put four washers on the clutch Bowden tube on the gearbox bracket so that the pedal could come back up to near the top before I ran out of adjustment.
This made the S shape in the tube much nicer too, so the clutch action is even smoother.

Took it on a short drive round the village, gear changes are definitely about right now.

Its interesting that one of the reasons my reverse gear before rebuild was hard to select in that you had to lean very hard on it, was because the reverse light switch turned out to be a T25 part, which is 3mm longer..

  7. Evicted several generations of algae from my roof.

Scrubbed canvas with Marine Clean, which works as well as anything else I've tried. Haven't really found anything that'll shift the real ground in stains.

Auto Glym tar remover is pretty good.

  9. It’s the soaked in rust stains that hard to shift.

I wonder if Iron Out would do this. It dissolves iron or rust specs on car bodies and wheels readily and is not supposed to be acidic. Supposed to work on interiors too. Could try it on a dummy piece first. Sold in Halfords. Pic of our second car below

I also changed the drivers door seal for a Brazilian one - these are nice and soft but dont fit without glue all round in the standard doors. I would have done the passenger seal but I seem to have mislaid it since Slough Swapmeet when I bought a pair for £30. My 10 year old seals had perished and cracked, and the passenger side makes a wailing noise as you go along.

Yeah. That Autoglym stuff is pretty good, if you go over it more than once. My bellows were pretty stained the top roof fittings, where it all folds down. Painting/treating all the bare/rusty metalwork had helped.

Been shopping for and making to-do lists...
Oil and an oil filter for Gusbus, get him serviced.

Overrider brackets from Butty's Bits and the small edge trim off eBay.

The overriders on Gusbus need removing, repainting in satin black and mounting on Major's bumpers.

New fuel pump to put on Major sometime in spring as the 40 plus yr old one is going noisy.

Both need a wash and clean.

The type 4 fan housing has a couple of small flaps. The wire spindle that the flaps hang off has a clear plastic sleeve. If that sleeve is damaged beyond use, then the insulation from 2.5mm twin & earth cable is a handy replacement

Picture of the fan housing attached to the engine coming later today...

I replaced mine, and the gaskets, when I put everything back together. I didn't know there were supposed to be any sleeves there so mine swing quite loosely I reckon. The engine is coming out shortly to get the box rebuilt so I might have a go at them then. Got the Viton dipstick bellows to do too.

    Viton boot in place

    20220108_154840.jpg

And fan housing attached to engine, with cylinder cover plates just resting in place for now

    20220108_155348.jpg

I also ran a tap through to clean all the threads in the multitude of tinwear... except I forgot the cylinder cover tins - doh!
