Nah. You can do wonders with a bit of cardboard and P38 He's a very, very lucky man after that dumb manoeuvre
I'd agree on the dumb manoeuvre but in his defence you could see the congestion ahead and if you watch the onboard footage the side of the track he was heading for was clearly empty in front - unfortunately he wasn't the only driver who spotted the gap ... Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
So, will he be back in the car? I suspect that Bahrain II this weekend is probably a doubt - minor burns / blistering and probably some head injury protocol will come into effect. But would he race in Abu Dhabi the week after for his last F1 race? Nor sure I'd be in the right mindset to do so... but F1 drivers (and other racing drivers) seem to be wired differently!
IMO that was so appalling that a normal human being would consider themselves so lucky to be alive they would immediately retire wouldn't they? Them and a few others - nobody wants to be burned alive, I thought and hoped that was a thing of the past. What was the chance that there would be a space in that mangled barrier to get out through? It looked to me like he got out himself (well done mate!) but top marks to the Doc, the stewards were being a bit half arsed with the extinguishers weren't they? What was the chance he could be on the scene in mere seconds? Lucky, lucky, lucky in some many ways.
Yeah, steward was waving the extinguisher around from a mile away. Although the barrier didn't do its job I guess it softened the blow to his body. If it had stopped him dead he might have worse injuries that what he did, on the other hand if the car hadn't gone through quite so far and the barrier ended up above him he may have been stuck in it. Very very lucky
Exactly - stop now, everyone is happy. TBH I expect he will but to hear 'em going on about how he'd want to get straight back in, it might be true but should be discouraged IMO.
Agree. Also, coz this is TLB I can’t say what I want to coz the likes of @Barry Haynes. I wasn’t impressed with his hose. there didn’t seem to be enough discharge etc etc etc. But seriously, if I was getting a little warm in a burning car I’d want a little more than a Halfords fire extinguisher waved in my general direction!!!
So Lewis has covid.. really, really hope they can get George Russell in to the mercedes for this weekend - he's really impressed and i'd love to see what he can do in a proper car.
A cynic would think they're saving the "100th pole" thing for next season. Or maybe that car turning into a fireball has made him want some time to reflect. Or maybe he has a virus.
yes, most likely George was (is?) part of the Mercedes junior driver programme, and the williams has the mercedes engine so i'm hoping that this admittedly unlikely scenario means he gets a drive in a top car. Agree it's unlikely though.
