Might have got used to watching the highlights packages on C4... this is the first race in a long time I’ve watched in full, warts and all!

    Bonkers end to the race.

Hope they do change the tyres to a step softer next weekend... that may shake up the strategy and bring in a bit more variety on strategy.

  5. I think they should fit sprinklers to each corner of the track and then each team can activate 1 sprinkler per race

  6. According to Mercedes on the last lap Lewis hit 230 km/h on the Hangar Straight and took both Copse and Stowe corners at over 130 km/h.

    On 3 wheels:eek:

Well, that’s the season wrapped up ;)

I know there are some doubters out there, but my word that was an unmatched drive today!

    Thoroughly deserved.

    Well done Lewis!

  9. Not taking anything away from Lewis, but god F1 so boring now, there was more overtaking in one lap of the BTCC than the whole season of formula 1 great for getting some zzz if sleeping tables don’t work.

  10. Agreed, the organisers are so far up they're own self centred rectums they've lost all perspective of F1 as a competitive racing series . The teams are accustomed to spunking tens of millions per season on what ??
Gaining a tenth is seen as a massive leap forwards and it's become a matter of pride to 'bend' the rules ....
Better racing at the local pay-per-hour kart circuit !
If you want to see real competition have a look at BTCC , MotoGP , BSB or World superbikes although they've been over-sanitised lately and attracted the big money sponsors at least there's a basic element of lively competition which F1 has sadly lost .

  11. At least the slippy surface spiced the racing up a bit - perhaps they ought to make all circuits in to skidpans - well done Lewis - fantastic driving

F1 - what a desperate stage managed charade with safety cars for no other reason than to let the laggers catch up and make it look more like a race... Do people pay to watch this live? The highlights are bad enough!
The cars aren't dangerous enough, they should be narrower and rev the nuts like the good old days.

    I didn’t even know F1 was still a “thing”.

It's not, even Rickrooooo has given up on it.

  17. I am still managing to follow F1 -have done since I watched from over the fence at Aintree in the 1950s but went off it in the Schumacher years to 2004 when he was winning by ramming others off the track etc. But always follow the Brit drivers since Stirling Moss, Tony Brooks etc - right thro' Mansell, Hill, Coulthard Button and now Hamilton, Norris and Russell . Agree with it being boring with too much of a procession - some major changes now needed to get the cars overtaking more often.

To leap to F1’s defence... This year has been more interesting than most, and yesterday’s race was much more of a spectacle than the norm.

The random introduction of unfamiliar tracks at the wrong time of year has demonstrated that a few tweaks to the format will help with the show.

I think the reduction in free practice is transferring over to next year and I suspect that there will still be some COVID shenanigans at the beginning of next season, which will hopefully help shake things up.

The 2022 rules are everyone’s ambition for closer racing. The guys running the sport are trying to change it for the better as they know punters need to be engaged or they’ll go.

I don’t follow other formats as closely as I do F1, but when I dip my tow into BTCC or Formula E (rarely bikes, sorry) the conversation still comes down to tyre management, weight management, fuel management, race management. I think that’s all part and parcel of any modern racing series.

I did see a YouTube video of Stadium Super Trucks pop up on Facebonk the other day. I don’t think they’re as worried about tyres and wings!!

  19. I think this would have been a fair criticism for earlier years, but i have to disagree - for me, i think this season has been great - lots of old tracks that are awesome and it really hasnt' been a procession - i agree more overtaking is always good but we have had a lot of overtaking this year.

Instanbul was a great race IMO, super slippy track plus rain, Hamilton 6th on the grid, stroll on poll, you can't really say that's samey samey boring surely? Hamilton had to pull out all the stops to fight his way to the front in a car that obviously was very hard to drive in those conditions, ended up with tyres almost worn to the canvas, his team mate down in what, 14th in the same car? The other two podium positions weren't clear until the cars actually crossed the line, we'd had lecerc take perez for 2nd only to go wide and lose the place back plus then be taken by vettel all on the last lap...

  20. As they say - "It's the exceptions that prove the rule" - it has been an exceptional year - with still too many occasions where overtaking is difficult if not impossible for most of the tracks, barring one or two that have long straights.
