YES! .... One issue with "doing" the UK coast is getting to it in the first place.
The green bus gives us 30mpg, but only if I pootle along at no more than 55, which means one third of the "break" is on the coast.
No way am I going on a motorway either.
So it has to be either one of the latest T2s with whatever engine will zip along a bit quicker, or an any-make newer still.
    This much we know!!

60 in a bay on a motorway isn’t that bad. I used to take the M3/M25/M1 route to o my folks a few times a year and found it ok.

It's more of a safety thing really ... It's an early after all!

Crashing a bay at 55 I’d imagine you might as well crash it at 110....
At least on a motorway you’re all travelling in the same direction.

 ... The 55 bits were all dual carriageway .... Everything else more like 40  rather that than a lorry squash?

I drive to the conditions on the motorway. Dry, no side wind, not too crowded I'm at 70mph on the speedo, satnav says 68mph, occasional bursts up to speedo 80mph in the BMW lane.

I do 65-70 with my lowered bus with a 1641. Some hills on the M4 take it down to 50.

I dont care too much about MPG so I drive my bus about three times further annually than my daily, as its better equipped for shopping with a freezer, space for purchases. Its useful as a general van.

I also prefer driving it because it has better visibity than a modern car, like losing sight of another car 20 metres away behind the A pillar on my Peugeot which also has a fairly long bonnet..

Steering and brakes work well, doing 1800 mile round trips in France no problem, even autobahns . 500 miles from Cologne to Southampton in a day.

I dont see the bus as an alternative. I see a car as a boring second best.

Original Devon Eurovette layout, just added post 1976 front seats with headrests.

Snap. I tend to sit at about 70-75 unless I see a T5 with a big VW sign on the back, up ahead!

I speed up to 80 to pass those lowered bays with tiny wheels doing 50. :)

  12. I have been looking at t5/6 over on my thread but guess what....
I've just bought a vivaro and saved a fortune...it will do what I mainly want it for....lugging gear around and fitting all the dogs in its 6 seats...
No camping gear in the back but not really needed.

  13. Same here, anything north of £17k and I'd be wanting a permanent overcab bed, a shower, toilet and a functioning kitchen.

  19. Hey the first year in Spain and Portugal I did in a T2 and had no issues, typical as I was so sick of work and was hoping to get stuck out there.
