  1. Has anyone mentioned the idea of converting your LHD to RHD?

No ... but I wouldn't do that with the completed one (in the avatar) but I did consider doing it with the project ... I'd have to sort out a pop top as well though.
On the plus side I would know what's under the paint however!
On balance I'm better off making a clean break from what we already have, and look for the alternative in the style as suggested by @paulcalf ...

  3. I was catching up with the later posts and came to the same conclusion long before i came across Mr @paulcalf `s highly eloquent and brutally truthful analysis .

Selling up and starting again with something you`ll both be happy with is the way forwards , T2`s are lovely but if it isn`t working well and with no attatchment other than financial it`s `that time ` .
They`re noisy , smelly , difficult to drive , lack modern technology to make driving a pleasure and are down right dangerous - they`re the plus points .
That`s the appeal , they are a bit oddball but you`ve got to embrace that to enjoy the van .

There are some lovely conversions out there at bargainous prices , might have to be Vito , Sprinter or god forbid a Transit but find something which works rather than plugging away on a dream which won`t happen .

Good luck whichever route you take

(I`d be looking at T4`s but for purely practical reasons - they ain`t purrty but lots of boxes ticked by a mate who recently bought a minty Westfalia two owner van for 10k ...)

    :hattip:

  4. Wouldn't a Westy T4 be a lefty? Not that you were suggesting @Dub and Dubber should buy one, but just so he doesn't go looking.

  5. Probably but he didn`t mind .
Don`t think @Dub and Dubber would be looking at T4`s which is a shame as they`re really a very practical van . Reading a few reviews matey emailed for my opinion i came across this ;-
    https://blog.heritagepartscentre.com/blog/2013/12/05/t4-buying-guide/
Which got me thinking there`s more to them than meets the eye

I`m only making the point there`s a massive selection out there - what he looks at is entirely down to personal choice but there`s bound to be a compromise along the way - as we all know the perfect van just doesn`t exist .

EDIT . Two minutes looking and i found this - even got a bog !!
    https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classi...=500&advertising-location=at_motorhomes&sort=
.... I`d lose the back box for starters , if you`re going to have a toilet gotta have a loo with a view .

  6. Great engine in the T4, and even @Merlin Cat would give the seal of approval :D. A long nose late Westy would be my T4 of choice, love 'em.

LHD suits me fine, as long as I don't mind doing ALL the driving when we start getting serious with the touring ... "Oddball"? Yes, that's me, apparently, difficult to drive? not in my book.
If I hadn't made a catastrophically bad judgement of character we would now be happily touring in a cross-over Dormy that I knew inside out ... and be in for about the same money as what it was worth ... We like the bus too much to flog it first, nobody has dicked about with it beyond what we've been able to reverse, and I still have plans for it with weddings and photo booths etc anyway.
The project is a better "seed fund" for what we end up touring in.
There's a spray booth on offer across the yard, and I'm not averse to putting in the prep hours for that, so it should be in a nice bit of paint by this time next year and a much easier sell.
You're right about me and the T4 ... It's somewhere between two things it'll never be: "old school" and "sharp" if that makes sense?
Thank you for your kind wishes my dear chap! :D

I did the conversion in mine Bazza, nearly went and strangled the lad who said it was a straight swap.

    OMG what have I started!
"I do like a minty fresh oldie" ( ) ... I'm going to start sounding like an Aldi advert:
"I do like that, but I also like this"
    https://www.justkampers.com/marketplace/advert/view/id/9962/
for ROUGHLY the same money .........
The RED one however, for roughly half that, would be a much better daily (need a good load carrier for ongoing selfbuild and sculpture projects)

  19. This is going to be an unpopular post, but here goes.

You want a daily, camper and RHD. Stop looking at T4's and T5's. They have a huge scene tax attached to them. Iv'e seen 250k T4's on ebay for 4 or 5 grand for a 2000, a twenty year old builders van.

Go look at a Trafic or a Vivaro, you can get a nice late van for 5k and convert it mostly yourself. There is plenty of support, roofs, interiors and loads of people to service them. They drive like a car come in SWB or LWB depending on your preference. For the budget on that T5 you would get a far newer Van with less miles and a top notch conversion. It would have A/C, cruise control, remote radio controls all things that on a T5 make it a 35k van. So you have a RHD drive camper/daily that the lovely Mrs Dub and Dubber will drive and cash left over from the sale of the green one and cash from the T5 budget, put that into getting your other van restored and roadworthy and then you have the best of both worlds. You can get a top fitted in the other van weddings etc won't be bothered, or even notice probably.

    Let the abuse begin :p
