Agree ... I know mine wouldn't fetch £30,000 but don't tell the insurers in case I have to torch it

  2. Paid 5k in 2003 and it’s been good to me. The PO worked for a well known importer, and had picked a good’n, then went to work abroad. Not much rust so far, though I have discovered evidence of repairs to a good standard, from its early life in Germany. Maintenance and repairs has been about £7000 including getting the trans fixed. The engine will be next mind.

Keeping it in a garage helps a lot. My previous one stood outside and rapidly went green, then brown as nature took over.

  3. £1800 in June 2000. One previous owner, 99% rust free (back then). Best money I ever spent.

  4. Back in 2010 we decided we wanted a campervan and I thought that people bought these old VW bays because they were reliable and cheap (!) So I got one of those. It was £6450 on Ebay. I stripped out the original stretchers and wheelchair and sold them to a guy doing an ambulance resto in Tenerife. The new interior and Subaru conversion cost about another £12k in total. No other major items apart from usual wear and tear etc. Given that it's taken us all over Europe and crossed the Alps and Pyrenees at least six times I feel that compared with other campervan options, it probably was 'reliable and cheap' after all.

  9. Paid 2k for a 74 Moonraker then sold that and paid £900 for a 78 Devon and 6 months ago paid £13k for a 75 westy. But it’s like houses for me unless your selling to become homeless or die any money you made with inflation means nothing because what your buying to replace it with probably increased the same amount. Or I just tell myself that so I don’t get too upset.

  10. IIRC £7250 in 2013 in reasonable condition and (largely) still is albeit I have had some welding done at the back end. It had surface rust in places but that was easily sorted and remains a constant source of maintenance, naturally. It ended up costing more due to mechanicals (broken engine after a year, various gearbox repairs and other normal stuff like CV joints / brakes etc etc ) but I don't think I was robbed and it has remained a fairy solid bus - far more so than my first which I bought for £4500 in 2001 and sold 6 years later for £1400 as a project.

I really wish when a magazine does an article on a shiny bus, they would say." This bus took 1000 hours plus parts of professional garage time that the owner did not have to pay because he owned the garage or was mates with the garage owner."

To you the man in the street, that is £50000 plus VAT."

  13. Indeed
Like I said before I probably spent more than the price of a Bungalow in some places in uk
    On mine

You won't ever make any money on
These vehicles unless you intend to rob someone
And as we know there are plenty of people who are more than happy to screw people
