Anyone got a picture of installing these 3" fans into a pre 74 system ie. with a solid pipe section under the front belly pan.
I brought this stuff http://www.autosiliconehoses.com/silicone-hose-shop/air-ductings.html More flexible than multiply silicone hose and more does not lose as much heat as the metal tube. With the long 90mm tube and the front 70mm and the 60mm rear floor vent done I find heating is more than adequate and the air flow is fast enough even at 2K rpm. But then again I do have a CU type 4 engine with the dedicated alternator blower.
You can use it all over I think as Silicon is good for up to 300 celcius. I personally use the CSP stainless tubing from the fan shroud to the exchangers for aesthetics. One word of warning though for the fan installers. The VW system is designed as a positive pressure system such that any leaks will blow out. Adding a powerful fan gives it a chance to suck in poluted air from outside. If you do fit a bilge fan make sure you fit a Carbon monoxide alarm in the cabin area. In fact I fit a Carbon monoxide alarm regardless.
Thanks, CO alarm ordered. Blower seems to work well on the driveway, but will give it a proper test later today. Quieter than I expected, but I isolated it with foam adhesive pads. On or off at the moment, with a PWM controller on the way.
So if the OD on the blower is 75mm and the OD of the metal pipes the front is 70mm, which size silicone hose should I order from autosiliconehoses, 70mm or 76mm?
Funny you should say that. Im just looking at fitting a 4 inch fan into a snail fan housing to achieve that exact end but with a bit more balls to it. On a good system without air leaks and oil leaks the fans are great and id recommend but ive a theory they might cause some stuff to get drawn in.especially any oil from leaky push rod tube seals. Originally i was looking to ft two fans, one for each hose and bring the air from inside the bus but that means making holes in places you might not want them. Ive a full width bed but if it were 3/4 id be tempted to put a supply air vent in the rear side locker

Suitable fusing, wire size and relay will be used I assure you. Failing that, fire extinguisher will be in easy reach
Good thinking. I suppose I was just wondering if the 70 would stretch to 75. I'll give the supplier a call and see if they have a reducer or if they think their hose will stretch enough.
It does stretch a little, I went 70mm and a nice fit. No reducers used All I have to wait for now is my hot air to smell normal again since the last fire!
