I've looked at loads of designs for the exhaust and wondered why use 2x silencers. Just 1 is less bends, faster gasses out improve airflows or does it need 2?
That's what I was wondering, isn't a shorter run a good thing, expelling the gasses as quickly as possible? Reason I ask is I'm cracking on with mine but going for 1 bigger box at the back, plenty of room for it, just don't want to miss something
Exhausts are a funny thing. Loads of science behind it. But yes you should be ok with one big back box across the back, like a type 4 exhaust sort of thing?
Just make sure it is very free flowing with no restrictions as it will kill engine power. Ask me how I know!!
Yes my old one, cut off an inlet gives me a good usable box. Have a flexible bit as well to absorb vibration. You're right though, lot of science
I'm by no means an expert on exhausts, but from my limited experience with Scooby setups, you need a bit of back pressure to give it the torque needed in a bus. My first setup in mine was just straight through into a big bore Mondo back box.. it went like ***** if you thrashed it, but was a bit lame at low revs. Oh, and it was very shouty, and popped and crackled on overrun. Mk2, was the same, but with an extra "cherry bomb" type silencer added before the back box.. this was a bit better all round, but still popping on overrun. Mk3 was all the above, with added motocross bike type baffles in the back box. Loads more torque, slight loss in top end, but will still go way faster than is enjoyable in a Bay.. I guess the best bet is to experiment with whatever you can find in the garage till you find a good compromise. Oh, the t25 one I done recently just had a single standard Forester back box, and that was an excellent compromise. Nice raspy note but not too much. It was fecking heavy though, so I guess there must have been a lot of baffle in there.
