Ok so made a start on the interior and here's a bit more just need some more spare time as keep having to work at the weekendsmaking up the pleated panels firstlyback to work again so hopefully next pic will be a panel finished
Dude your level of commitment is stratospheric.. This van is amazing as is your skill level.. AWESOME ...
not to far.. we were always close. Both vans were being restored in tandem I have definitely taken inspiration from your build .. I threw my toys out the pram a while back so my build up thread has gone .. but its incredible how much reference there is on other folks build threads.. Seeing your not toughing it out on your own helps a lot Your not far away now either .. Keep up the good work. I was chuffed to drive mine for the first time since I coaxed it onto the trailer nearly 8 years ago.. prior to that it st at the side of the POs house for 15 years ... Its amazing what can be saved with a bit of stubborn determination
I can tell you there's been twice when I thought about just selling it and buy a van thats been done but then look at my little girl and just get on with it
Just a small update got a couple of hours in today so did a bit more sewing all so took apart my sun visors as there falling to bits and will remake these aswell
Got a bit more done tonight just need to fit them to the board now and that's the front door cards done hopefully got her book in for mot Saturday
Small update while I'm waiting for my stapler of eBay to finish door cards so I thought I'd start the front bench seat so stripped it down then cut up the cover to make patternsso dirty and rusty but got start somewhere and done that's the first part now the back rest am really enjoying this bit
Seriously, is there no end to your tallent ... I wouldn't even attempt to do upholstery.. you've got a serious gift being able to do the stuff you've done to that van .. its ace
it's not talent it's just I like to do things for my self so watched YouTube and followed the instructions it's not that hard actually yours is looking good on the road and running well I take mine for its mot to day
I've been watching your interior work as i need to replace some piping on the seats on my bug. Some of the professional seat covers don't look as neat as yours.
Try it it's not hard to do I've never done it before there's some good YouTube vids that show you. there's one on showing how to do what you want repair the piping All you need to do is remove the cover then cut the stitching and replace the bit you want then sew it back together
my Mrs started our with the same doubts! a few vids, a few blogs and me massaging her ego... one thing I've spotted on youtube more lately is a machine that "skivs" (a skiving machine, if you will). It compresses the seam allowance so when you're doing piping you don't have to contend with the thickness of 4 bits of fabric... not cheap mind. It's ultimate use is for flat French seams... and I am a big fan of French seams!!
Yep seen them there not cheap but I know what you mean it gets a bit addictive I'm already thinking about doing my door panels again but different
