Mecatechnic would get you one pretty quickly, then you could hide it until you’re sunburnt. https://www.mecatechnic.com/en-GB/starter-contactor-to-beetle-kombi-transporter-74_VB11612.htm Or Serial Kombi http://www.serial-kombi.com/en-GB/b...nition-switch-white-nylon-8/1974-7/1979-n3441
After a similar issue & after replacing fuel lines due to causing a fuel leak from whacking the fuel pipe which comes out the tank immediately above the starter & easy to clobber with a mallet when your desperately trying to get it to work I spent a lot of time at techenders (I was on route when this happened) with a multimeter & came to the same conclusion you have! I linked a cable from the main battery feed to the ignition across to the wire that the barrel sends the feed to when turning the last bit & it worked a treat! Garage then fitted a push button for me as it was in for an mot & I needed to get it sorted after just getting made redundant at the time, that and a new battery lasted a whole year & past another mot until we sold her! A month after selling the new owner was experiencing all the same symptoms & ended up replacing the starter, I believe that has sorted it! I think what I'm trying to say is that looking back I believe the starter was beginning to fail and as it did it required a bit more oomph from the ignition circuit to get it to turn & the 40 yr old ignition and wiring was unable to provide this. As with hot start relays everything I did although appeared to fix the issue it was only delaying the inevitable so you may find your symptoms return in time or the new ignition may not last that long! Will get you home I suppose but so will turning ignition on and shorting the terminals on starter with a big screwdriver Enjoy your holiday & don't worry too much about it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
When you try to start it, jiggle and wiggle the key in the start position. I managed a couple of months like this before replacing the switch
Ours has been playing up for months but assumed it was the actual metal ignition barrel that was old but you live and learn! Gonna get a new one and enjoy the local delicacies till it arrives, thanks for the advice it is greatly appreciated. A very chilled & relaxed Mr & Mrs Zoso
Of course they will, but at a higher price and with a slower delivery. You’re in France it makes more sense to buy it from an in country supplier. http://www.vintagewagen.fr/ is close to Angers and might not be too far from you.
Our switch had lost the small grub screw and had a small philips screw in there even easier to swap!.. your new switch will have a couple of spare wires brown? Seems to be dead and grey, mine seems to be live until you turn a key on... Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
tuesday_wildchildtuesday_wildchildtuesday_wildchildtuesday_wildchildtuesday_wildchild I gonna tell my mum you're picking on me
Good point but we don’t know what year the bus is. I’d assumed it was a late and the switch I linked to doesn’t have wires (or grub screws) it plugs into the socket, or rather the socket plugs into the switch.
Ah as you were then!... ours is a cross dresser. ..and doesn't even know if it's a boy or girl! Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
