    You did v well @pkrboo :)

It's guesses correct, work van is Citroen and pick up a hilux . I once, foolishly, put my reg plates into we buy any car.com and would have got about 5K for the lot!, :)

    They know nothing.

  7. Spray some plus gas or wd 40 around the edges of it all
It probably stuck down with years worth of crud
Expect to find your rubber steering coupler cracked and in need of replacement once you lift the cover

  9. That's how they work, offer people a price with the bait of instant cash, probably try to knock you down even further when you go to their agent. Is the depth of the shagpile carpet in a Landmark checked at the Mot?

It's lifting from the floor but not coming up the steering column. It must have been off once before as the colour has been scraped from the column to part way up. I've got one more job to do then I shall get home, have a cuppa and go at it afresh :)

Finally :) the shroud was dinted so I put a screw driver down the side and levered it out and it came up easy :)

I've noticed cracking in this piece pictured. Is that a bad thing, or a, oh, that's normal for a bus of this age thing? Please?

  15. A few weeks after buying my van, I felt the steering was getting more and more sloppy, so I checked it all out and found a very cracked and split rubber coupling. The coupling was identifies as a cheap repro with a dolphin stamped on it. Junk.

Yousr may be on its way out and likely part cause of the steering wheel slop you have.

As pointed out, if the coupling goes, you have no steering at all, so crash.

On the forum, the coupling has come up a lot lately and you must renew it and also source the proper vw part and not the cheap repro ones out there, which are no good.

Try searching on here or ask .

  16. Scrape the overspray of the coupling and see if the rubber itself is cracked/split
I wonder whats the reason for the van needing paintwork at some point

The front panel had to be repaired by the folks I bought it off. Maybe it was then?

@mgbman I hadn't noticed any prob with my steering at all. I just saw oil on the drive.

  19. Are those "cracks" just where it's been painted over (in which case you can forget about them), or are they deeper into the rubber?

Just scraped some paint off and it appears it's into the rubber. Got genuine vw and part no on it tho:).

Not sure how bad is bad? With my penchant for driving falling apart vehicles it doesn't look too bad to me.

The cracks, as I guess would be expected, are near the bolts. This is from underneath.
