i have just found this thread and read through the lot. all i can say is wow, one of the best resto threads ive seen, such attention to detail, i dont know how you find the time or patience but you have done a fantastic job. congratulations mate, i bet you cant wait for that first trip out with your little girl, makes it all worth while
I appreciate your comments it's been hard sometimes as whant to spend time with my little girl but also get done to go travelling with miss and the little monkey. Nearly there now
This is an awesome resto - I thought mine was bad - you have done a brilliant job and should be very proud. You also need to be there for your family, but good times with kids of all ages are just around the corner in a very nice bus.
I hope you cleaned up those electrical connectors under the dash too .....I was amazed to find VW logos on mine hiding under the dirt
Of course I did.......I know what you mean there is little vw logos on them and the there a bit thicker than what you buy nowadays Were are my smiley face gone
I had the same when I was getting my bus sorted, and back together, but my son and daughter love it it's worth it, if I ever decide to get rid it going to be like cutting there arms off, when they come home they hug the camper They also want to go everywhere in it!
Not much to show really sanded doors and slider on the insides, then got them etched and primed just got a little bit of filling to do we're the repairs we're done. then il get them in colour hopefully soon
Well iv been busy with my little girl recently so not much to show but got the doors done Started on the roof and started on making my headlining for the bus making the side bits that go round the opening hopefully have the headlining all done this weekend so near but still so far
Done the cab part of the headlining hope to finsh fitting it tomorrow after going to skegvages did a bit more to pop top cleaned primed the stone chipped it the top coated it
It scratched and dented and been painted so much I just da it all of and I don't like it when people cover them with vinyl so stone chipped and painted it and now it bobble with a nice shiny surface easy to clean and looks different plus most of it will be covered with solar panels
Fair play, i was only asking as i want to cover mine in something other than vinyl too. And wondered if a thick stonechip would do the same job. Maybe a bit of tigerseal over each rivet too
No worries it looks really nice il get a close up pic if you like but make sure you use gravtex by upol as it's best finish
I took a close up mind the dirt it's sitting in the back garden and all the rain and leaves fell on it and still need to fit rubber better but letting it settle first and a made a 1" smotheboarder round the edge for the seal
Went skegvages today so when I got home put pop top back together need to let it settle abit then put the filler strip in to finsh and started to strip the arms to clean and paint got to remake the brackets as there rotten and twisted
Finish on the top looks great! How many bottles of the stonechip did you need? Whats it like where the rivets go? I take it a thick covering will stop any water?
I only used 1 bottle don't forget only use upol gravtex as it's the best for covering the rest are thinner set your gun to about 35psi and spray about 2 foot away I'm lucky mine is welded so i don't have rivets but just wipe them over with tiger seal first and they will be good and I always make a very thined out primmer wash to cover the stonechip first before top coat sticks better
Mine's riveted, the vynil is an original feature, I like it myself. I don't think a riveted one would be good painted, they are too flexible, bound to leak after a while I'd have thought.
Ah is it? If i can find some nice waterproof white vinyl i'd go for it maybe. But the black one that poptop parts sell would look sh!te i think on a white top bus. But then id rather that than leaks.
