10 hours! More whisky needed. What a job! Hat's off to anyone who does stripey cards and cushions in vinyl with scrim foam.
So what was the total cost? £40 as metioned earlier for scissors, iron, ironing board, zip, thin thread, thick thread, tailors chalk. £38 for plenty blackout material £65 for 3 pieces of foam (bit of a bargain I think!). Makes up for wasting a lot of ££££ on useless stuff. £180 for 6m of seat fabric - there was heaps of waste due to making the pattern go the wrong way. 4m would have been ample otherwise. £1 for more thin thread £324 total, still need to get turnfasteners for the tie backs. Not bad I think.
It all looks very professional. I consider myself ok at sewing, but I wouldn't fancy tackling all of that! I keep being reminded that I bought the fabric to do Roman blinds for home a couple of years ago and they're still a work in progress (ie the fabric is still in the bag which has now been relegated to the loft)... So if you're at a loose end now you've finished your own sewing...?
I searched for stripey fabric and eventually randomly ended up here. "Beautifully soft and chunky chenille in gorgeous multi-coloured pin stripe." Means nothing to me, but might to someone. http://modellifabrics.com/
@SweeneyTodd it's the rub-off furnishing leather I had in the early, a hide is beaten out thin so it's much bigger than a cow if you see what I mean. Can't remember the price, it was a few years ago now - I was searching for rub-off leather and randomly ended up buying from here... http://www.leprevo.co.uk/leather.htm
There are a zillion available types of leather, the site is a bit of a nightmare where it's priced/sq ft and sold in hides and you don't see a pic until you've selected a type to look at. A bit more than £100/hide prob + vat. This is the stuff I got - too thin for cab seats - typical furnishing thin stuff. http://www.leprevo.co.uk/photos/up-rub-off.htm
Got on with tie-backs today. Eventually sourced turnbuttons at a marina chandlery 30 miles away this morning. Don't like press studs, they're annoying, get stuck and I end up yanking on the material. I think that's all done now - seven tie backs made and installed. It's been good fun. I even made a bag for my screen curtain - so easy. lol
Good job all round sir! What will you do with yourself now it's finished? Also Please don't skip the sewing machine it would be a shame for it to go to the sewing bee in the sky!
No stopping you now Zed, what's the next skill you intend mastering. Fear not, he has a cunning plan.
The machine is going to live with sandybay. He will play making fine furnishings until he's bored then loan it to someone else... and on and on. It's a great mahine - when it gets to 8 thicknesses it just carries on like it's sewing through air. i think it would easily cope with heavier stuff.
I will indeed be "The Keeper of the Machine", and anyone who wants to can borrow it, as long as they collect and deliver it back. A TLB resource.
I like this!! I was going to suggest such a thing if Zedders had storage space, good on you @sANDYbAY. The machine will need servicing from time to time & will benefit from oil. There should be a sump below the machine & this needs to be kept topped up with sewing machine oil which they sell pn ebay (transportation may not be so easy because of this- I have experience of this & an oily transit cargo floor). Are we giving her a name?
From a previous post on here I think Zed has filled the sump below the machine with sharks so they'll need feeding as well. What name do you suggest?
