Your key 5 things to take camping

  1. Hello all! This is my first post so I hope it's worthy lol.

As I'm close to getting Pumpkin ready for camping, I've started to think about important things to take away with me for weekend breaks. So, I thought I'd ask all you lovely people about the key things you need to survive the weekend away, 5 to be exact.

Ignoring the obvious (sleeping bag, hob etc) what couldn't you live without?

  2. Beer.

  3. Beer, food,

  4. Oh some more beer, maybe some cider, the bus and beer and spare beer incase the other beer gets drunk! ;)

    simo

  5. Phew, glad you didn't spell it Punkin ;-)

AA card is a must and an umbrella

  6. Don't forget the morning after beer for when your feeling grotty.

    Toilet paper too.

  7. ummmmmm, right ,
    torch
    matches/lighter
    loo roll
    bottle opener
    booze.
    hope that helps
    nick

  8. Spare parts for the bus

  9. So lots of beer then lol

  10. Credit card......... for the "Just in case" moments !!!

Just in case you run out of beer :-[

  11. And maybe a few more beers in case you cant get any fuel for the return journey, the world is coming to an end didn't you hear?

  12. My other half, cos it gets cold at night

  13.
  14.
  15.
  16. cider

for when the beer runs out

  17. Terrordales

    Terrordales Nightshift

    1/ Booze, preferably beer,vodka, whisky/whiskey, gin & cider
    2/ More booze, preferably wine,champagne & cognac
3/ Even more booze, preferably something really sweet & disgusting that you can palm off onto drunks around the campfire. >:D
4/ Cool box & ice to keep the above at a decent temperature.
5/ Food, usually a couple of servings of pot noodle or baked beans or SPAM for emergencies .... usually you can get fed by other better equipped campers if you mope around looking miserable.
6/ Significant other ..... useful for helping you to bed, fetching beer, vodka etc etc, fetching food for you cos you are now "ill" from the night before.

  18. Ignoring the obvious of sleeping kit, clothes, food, beer/wine, stove, spares etc then my 5 would be:

    1) Headtorch ... always useful for finding the loo block in the dark so that you have free hands for escorting the sleepy child who has just woken you up with the shout of 'I need a wee', reading outside when it is dark and still warm (and for looking a bit daft but I don't care!)

    2) Portable DVD player ... UK weather never does what it says it will and this has entertained Freya on several soggy days!! Just remember the DVDs ... gives a break from the 'I'm bored, when will it stop raining Mum' complaining!

    3) Loo roll ... some campsites have nice stuff, others have hard stuff (think school loo roll that was like tracing paper :( !), others have none ...!!

    4) Games ... we have packs of cards (Uno, snap, Monopoly deal), travel guess who, outdoor snakes and ladders.

    5) Books ... sitting in the sun reading a book whilst drinking a beer or glass of wine while Freya is running around making new friends is a lovely way to spend the afternoon!

    Hope that helps!!

  19. 1.)A propane heater for cold nights. (one that's rated safe for non-vented indoor use, obviously)

2.)Rope. To tie down crazy junk you didn't expect to buy on your trip, clothes line in case you fall asleep with all the windows open and wake up in a torrential downpour at 4am (ask me how I thought of that one), etc,... It's just a very handy camping staple.

3.) Plastic bags. To stuff your camera, phone and iPod in should it rain or if you wind up playing in a lake or stream. Also handy at the beach to keep sand out of your electronics.

4.) Always keep a few of those little disposable rain ponchos on hand. They only cost a dollar and they fit in your pocket. Bring extras for friends.

5.) A few of those compressed wax-impregnated insta-light logs for when the firewood is hard to light.

5b.) I know you said 5, but don't forget a first aid kit. Be prepared for colds, allergies, head-aches, hangovers, cuts, etc,... antibiotic ointment with pain relief is a must. I like to have soup and instant pudding in case somebody's throat hurts too much to eat solid food.

5c.) (I can't stop.) Don't forget the whimsy. Kites, bubbles, incense, yo-yos, fireworks, kazoos, etc,... ^-^
