Your key 5 things to take camping

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Sparky73, Mar 30, 2012.

  1. Apart from the obvious (bus, food, family etc).

    1. A torch/lantern
    2. Basic first aid kit including Calpol (even if you don't have kids it is worth carrying as it may help you get some sleep at night rather than listen to someone else's child who needs it).
    3. Something to amuse all ages, we carry colouring books & pens and a box of lego.
    4. My solar DAB radio
    5. A spare key

  2. All the above plus gaffer tape and WD40.

One shuts the wife up, the other lets you slip away.
    Joke, honest

  3. Ah ha, we're getting some serious answers now lol. Thanks for the replies though, some usefull suggestions.

Just starting to think about which bits I can just 'grab and go' should we feel like getting away at short notice. Which is one of the reasons we've got the van. Beer and food can be brought when we get there (although they were very important suggestions lol).

I'm probably cheating a bit by using your experiences rather than learning first hand about the loo roll lol.

  4. Tools and spare parts are a must, including a jack.

    Torch or two

Everything else is just common sense really.

  5. Silver

    Silver Needs points/will pay!

Based on the list we brought back from our first camping trip. i.e things we forgot or had to buy on arrival.

    Small bottle of cooking oil.
    Torches and spare batteries.
    Can opener
Phone charger (left it in car)
    Large picnic blanket.
Sheet of plastic (for going under the van on)

  6. Tuesday wildchild

    Tuesday wildchild I'm a circle!

  7. One of the best things I ever invested in (finally) was all rechargeable batteries. Sure they cost more, but you can recharge them at least 100 times, so really they only cost pennies in the long run.
Plus, the best part is you're never caught with dead batteries. With an adapter, you can recharge them from your cigar lighter.
And they're more environmentally conscious. ;)

  9. I am being practical

1, biscuits and snacks. It is amazing how being outside makes you hungry
2, calpol, paracetamol, insect bite cream, sudacream, lipbalm
3, bin bags, wet wipes, glow sticks
    4, plasters and bunting.
5, ear plugs for adults or ear protectors for kids ( our boys go to sleep in them when it's noisy)

But the most useful is antibacterial spray ( because cleaning up sick or wee in the middle of a field is not fun)
