I don't remember ever getting tickets in the 70's tbh. I paid at the door when I couldn't blag my way in!
First one I remember was the Who at charlton with Lou Reed, humble pie and more. Then it was SAHB then Bowie both at Chatham central hall.
Hawkwind, Leeds Uni. Was the day of a mates funeral, started supping at 11 in the morning. Hawkwind was mostly a blur.
Ricky Cool and the Icebergs at Birmingham Rep, mostly local Birmingham bands like Little Acre (fantastic live band )....first "big" act I saw was probably The Tom Robinson Band at Birmingham Ocean, brilliant gig, although I thought the support, Stiff Little Fingers, a bit too raucous for my tender lugholes
The Pogues at Battersea Park in 1985 - I was 17 - it was a GLC funded festival with The Me They Couldn't Hang, The Hank Wangford Band, The Boothill Foot-Tappers and Billy Bragg. The main audience were all draped or flying Irish flags - twas dark days in 1985 and the atmosphere was a bit "strange".
First small local gig was in the basement of the Luey Marque cellar which was a young punk band from the private school then it was the wild club gigs at norwich arts centre 'goober patrol' , first big gig New Model Army
This has reminded me of the very first festival I went to, I remember us all piling into my mates anglia van and driving up to the Lincoln festival 1972, on the bill was The Faces,Slade Status quo, Roxy music Nazareth, Joe cocker, Genisis , Wishbone Ash and I think Monty Python,
Traffic and John Miles at uni. Elton John was meant to be there but didn't show up. Never liked the bar steward since then. Cost me five bob. First gig I performed in was at an old folks home in Hartlepool. Ah well...!
Utah Saints and Big Country in Leicester. Quite a difference between the two! Obviously not on the same night...
