Mine was in a local dance hall called 'Frank Freemans' I was about 8 and went to with an older group of my cousins. I can't remember liking the noise much, and going out with an headache half way through. Never really liked Led Zeppelin since. I see Rob a fair bit too. He lives by me. Who was your first live band and where?
Atomic Rooster at Redford quickly followed by YES at Birmingham. I've lost count since then. I wasted my sixth form years going to concerts.
Motorheads all girl support band 'Girlschool' at Carton Forum in Notts....Think I was about 15....ears were ringing for days....
Iron Maiden, Number of the beast tour, Manchester Apollo. I couldn't see anything the first half coz I didn't want to put my NHS Specs and spoil my tough rocker look! Gave in and saw a brilliant show!
UB40 supported by an unknown beat combo called The Pretenders ... UB 40 were arrested that afternoon so didn't show - Needless to say the pretenders played for nearly 3 hours and were bloody brilliant ...
I've seen loads of bands there in the early 80s including Rush, Black Sabbath, Whitesnake (original line up) ZZ Top. Seemed a lot smaller at dubfreeze.
First one was Toyah at Hammersmith Odeon...followed closely by Accept at the same place......Toyah was ok but I walked out of Accept totally wasted, as we had seats in the stalls next to the air intakes
I'm still a waster as I'm off to watch Europe & Black Star Riders at Rock City and Thunder at Leeds next week.
You been listening to Steve Wright? He had the same question today in their "Do you remember" spot. My first gig was at the Birmingham hippodrome. It was The Walker Brothers, The Trogs, and some other group that I can't remember.
Yes. Still am. He sounds the same up here in the north east too. This modern technology never ceases to amaze me!
