I think VW just pulled the relay/fuse box up, screwed it on and let the cables fall where they wanted to.

  3. Any idea what size/type of screws the fuse box uses?
Mine was removed many years ago and I’ve lost the screws.

I just took two self tappers from my mixed box that seemed to fit the holes.

  5. Looks like I’ll be having to buy some mixed boxes of screw’s because I’m bound to be needing more for other things

Yeah I bought a box of mixed stainless for all the odd bits like the front vent screws, track covers etc.

Parts book says they are p/n N0139612. Oval head panel screw 3.9 x 13. It's nothing special, just a self tapper used for other things on the bus, JK will sell you them for silly money.

That’s how I am planning to do mine.

  11. Just use self-tappers, like VW did ;)

  12. This ^^^
Don't overthink it , couple of self tappers and job done
Don't forget , most of the wiring drops behind the kick boards or is hidden by the dash..

@paradox, some pictures of my mess for you, looking at the photos I will definitely be doing a tidy up when my dash comes out. But until that point, if it ain't bust.....(78 American with egr and Cat originally installed)

Mine needed the next size up self tapper one end as it had worked loose.

The basic wiring approach is to go to the point of termination, then loop the wire behind the metal strip tabs around the place, with big loops to miss moving things like vent flap mechanism and the top of the handbrake lever ( or not on my bus ..)

Imagine you are on a low salary, bored out of your skull, missing family in Ankara , go through the motions. This will result in a stock finish.

If the wire is inside sleeving it's often meant to be somewhere a bit visible like the bundles going to the steering column

  15. The bracket that connects to the top of the steering column then bolts to the top of the fresh air box
Does some of the wiring run above that or does it all run below it?

  16. Thanks Chris it’s much appreciated

Dashboard switch wiring goes above the crumple bar thing, sleeved wiring to steering column switches clips underneath it..

  19. If you find a complete wiring diagram that you want printed, PM me and I'll print it out HUUUGE for you. Makes it much easier to follow and you can stick it on the wall for reference.
