People at vanfest who is trying to sell their van ask stupid money, it's the highlight of the day laughing at the prices, one man got a bit offended when I laughed and said he got to be taking the :censored:, didn't realise he was stood next to me. There were some right sheds there for stupid money. There were some for the right money. I'm thinking about selling my crosser,I should have took it and put it up for 12k, double what I reckon it's worth.
i missed you there then mate,i was up for the day and there was some crap there but it was a good day might camp next year need two days to have a prooper look
Sam said about giving you a call to see if you was there. Oh well, well see you in a few weeks at cheddar.
It's because they feel they can get that price for it. Vanfest usually has a lot of people new to the scene, and sad to say some of them actually do pay these prices for vans - otherwise the prices would have come down by now.
I noticed that at Volksworld this year. What looked like a really nice 2 owner from new Moonraker was in fact a nightmare waiting to explode before your eyes with the amount of filler in it. And the owner wanted top money for it. This sadly though is the market and this is how much they are these days and it will not change while people still dream about living the dream we are all living.
i've said it before and i'll say it again, these vans are not worth half what they fetch, i came into the scene and genuinely thought i would get a decent one for a couple of grand that perhaps needed paint, and for 4 grand a really nice one.....i stick to the fact that i don't belive many of our vans are actually worth what they are fetching, but as said above by birdy, the prices are over inflated by people wanting to live the dream. how i wish i had been into this scene when the $ to £ exchange was 2 to 1.
the price is relative. some people buy them to be kewl and join the fad. they pay top price as they have the money. then people sell their buses to them to make a few pounds. that's life. on the flip side, you sell your 5k bay to someone for 9k. they think it's a 9k bay and sell it to someone for 11k when they get off the bandwagon. when the original seller decides he wants his 5k bay back he finds out it's now 15k as are all the others as everyone wants a piece of the profit. in a way we're pricing ourselfs out the game and beetles will become more popular again, FACT however, in the process there are many great people getting dubs now for what ever reason and that has to be a good thing in general.
ah now if you spend 4k on your 5k bay then yes i think it goes up in value (sometimes) i was meaning the ones that get a price tag with no work. keep ya bug for 5 years it will be worth 20k!
i will be keeping it as its tax exempt. and will soon be worth more than my 08 mazda 3 i have owned from new.. :-[
I love bugs, once i have jack done i will have another, for my daily, Buying and selling my friend takes care of that for me, but we have had some great campers for silly low price's, and have sold them on for a bit exstra, think its just the way things go, Can safly say i will never sell Jack EVER looooooool took me 4years to get a camper and one thats tax free omg for what i payed for was a steel. and for the money i have spent on him i would make profit if i did. but am not loooool
Nope you've lost me It's supply and demand They still make original tomato sauce. They don't make original campers anymore.
brazil still make the original (of sorts) it's not the same. like heinz sauce is not same as it was at the start
Just to add a little bit of perspective, has anyone had a quote from a restoration company as to how much a full nut and bolt resto would be?? I know it's relative to the condition of the van in the first place, but if any of you fancy getting a rough idea, sit down with a pen and pad, a copy of heritage, or JKs parts catalogue, and go through and add up, panels, rubbers, lights, and brightwork... and any other bits that a resto might need then add on 100 to 200 man hours at say £35p/h and another £600 for paint and materials... now you should have a total that is around the £15k mark... so £10k for a restored bay is cheap in my eyes
Some of the restored bays are not too bad, but it's the sheds that are 10k. In the car park at vanfest there was a red bay for sale on the back of the trailer. It's write up need new or patched sills and the same for the cross members. It was full of rot and filler, well to me it did. Didn't even put a price on it so assume he wanted more than £500 for it. Think the trailer was worth more. And there was just as many piles of rubbish inside for stupid prices.
