Inspired by today's hard-on grease thread, can anyone offer some advise on my broken nipple I haven't taken a picture of the tank end but it has sheared off with about 5mm sticking out, the nipple comes straight off the tank with no nut so I'm guessing it's an engine and tank out job and maybe a replacement tank?
If its a late tank with no bolt on union your looking at either brazing on a repair piece or a good condition second hand tank All depending on the condition of your current tank
Bummer....PITA job...your guess is right although if you've got atleast 5mm sticking out of the tank...there's hope
see it as an opportunity to fit new breather hoses, filler neck, sender and soundproofing every cloud.... soak the tank strap bolts in plus gas/WD40 beforehand.....they can be a bitch
Sound advice, I've been waiting for something to major to go pear shaped before fitting a new fuel sender and several other things. Better now than in camping season I guess.
i've just done mine today but my tank has a union nut on the tank even though its a 76 year, even heritage say its upto 74 then no nut but hey ho it did so no major problem. has it got a nut or is it brazed in. i did the same, engine out fuel pipe for tank replaced breathers done bit of a spruce up oil leaks sorted(hopefully)and back on the road very soon..............................
I recall seeing a link to a fitting for fuel tanks to replace the brazed outlet with a screw on one. Worth a google.
I fitted a -8 AN fitting to mine... I've got it hooked up into the CB rotary pump at the mo, but the plan was to use it as a large bore outlet for EFI I've left the old outlet for the eberspacher feed
