Who the hell has peacocks as a pet in a housing estate?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Zebedee, Apr 8, 2020.

  1. One of the houses round here has 5 peacocks living in their front garden. Its only a 15ft square garden so not as if they have a few acres to live in so they just roam the streets. Plus its now coming up to mating season so the buggers never shut up from dawn to dusk.
The big male broke the roof of my carport last night as obviously 1mm corrugated sheets don't support 15kg of peacock. The bonnet and roof of the car is scratched too.

Seems i have no comeback as they're like cats and no rules apply to them.

A mate of mine has the same in West Yorkshire. He's spent the last week investigating if he can shoot them.
    They'd make a hell of a pie!

  3. Well now that meat is not always available in the supermarkets..........................................just thinking aloud

A suitable use of self isolation?

  6. Next door neighbour is sitting in his garden with a shotgun waiting for it to land in his garden. Their owner does seem to give a toss what they do. They've already caused one road accident when a woman swerved to avoid one as it landed in the road.

  11. I would think that the owner near you is liable for damage caused by his pets - I would enquire as to whether he has insurance ready to pay your claim for new paint on your bonnet etc.

When I was teaching - one of my headmasters had a liking for pet birds - and installed an aviary in the quadrangle which he filled with budgies and parakeets and doves. As if that wasn't enough he got 3 peahens and a peacock- well the row the peacock made all day - much to the annoyance of the teachers in the rooms adjoining the quad - but the kids loved them . A member of staff was appointed to care for them and she was there everyday including holidays looking after them - eventually the peacock found ways of flying over the walls and escaped nearly every week causing damage to neighbours gardens .

  13. The only things more annoying than other people's kids and other people's dogs are other people's peacocks.

    The racket they make eh?
Like babies crying in pain, annoying if you have babies and are "tuned in". Been there.
    Nice feathers though.

  15. I dont think they'd come into our garden the spaniels would get them

  16. I don’t know many hens ;)

  17. I believe that the public liability section of his house/contents insurance will cover the damage to your car port and motor car, but I think you'll have to explain that to him. And then sue him before he can claim on it.
Hey, it's not like either of you are doing anything else these next few weeks is it?

  18. He's an unemployed single father of 4 with no cash and no insurance from what I've been told by neighbours. His house looks like steptoe lives there.
There's one less in the neighbourhood now anyway as I just ran it over. It was chasing a small dog at the time.

  19. Did you have to swerve? Maybe you shouldn't answer that ;)
