An old member of this group who now brews beer on a reasonable scale calls it Try January. Remember Lord Charles?
I refer to my previous answer: The only qualification I make is to be mindful of the risks and rules regarding covid. At worst, drink at home to support our brewers, cidermakers and distillers. I'm doing my bit!
The other year I was talking to a brewer (quality local ale end of the market) who advised that on the bottled products sold by supermarkets they make very little and that it was more a route for marketing their brands. So not sure its a great help to them. In any case was in the pub the other day and reminded how much better draught beer is compared to bottle or tinned. No rules here regarding Covid but then sort of expecting something to happen after the new year.
I agree with you that draught beer in pubs is better for the consumer, the brewer and the community. With regard to rules on covid, you don't have to wait for the nanny state to tell you what to do, you can do your own risk assessment as 190,000 people per day seem to be not very good at!
I'm not doing dry January merely cutting down & getting healthier / fitter ready for the 3 Peaks Challenge in April, there are too many nice locally brewed ales around. Some common sense will be applied and just have one night with a few beers per week.
I would rather spend my hard earned on motorcycle/VW parts and fuel. And waste less time recovering from alcohol in my system. Seems to make a great difference. Each to their own, one life, live it,etc, etc…
I've stopped drinking until I'm sixty. I'm also working towards reducing my carbon emissions to zero by 2062.
