  1. With plans nearly finalised for my interior, a question arose in the hob/sink thread @Lardy

Which way round to you sleep in your van ? Head toward the rear over the engine bay may have restricted head room due to over head locker or restricted width due to spare wheel or cupboards, head towards cab makes getting in more difficult and your pillow will always fall on the floor.

Any advice on sleeping arrangements would be appreciated ;)

  2. We have full width & have tried many positions ;) Head towards cab due to my height I kept loosing my pillow on the floor so we now remove the spare, drop my home made infill over the hole & sleep with our heads towards the rear over engine, much better however the overhead locker can catch you out when your half asleep

  3. We started with head towards the cab end which I was happy with (mr moosey's pillow leant up against a cupboard so didn't fall off, and I'm only short so don't need the full length of bed anyway, so dragged my pillow further down with me). We then changed ends - and now I wake up every time mr moosey turns over, waiting for the thud as he bashes his head (which seems to upset me more than him!). It's definitely cosier/warmer this way round though, as the space for cold air above your head is more limited so it's easier to warm up/keep warm.

Unless I've been overserved with alcoholic beverages in which case I'm lucky if I can find the bed & even luckier if Ms.T will let me into the bed.

  12. We sleep the other way with feet to tailgate as on the Berlin westie the cupboard limits width at tailgate but the cool box is the same height of bed to spread out at other end.

That said I'm short so find the bed long enough

  13. Haha ! He who dares, better to ask a stupid question rather than making a stupid mistake. It's interesting that the replies give such a preference for head over engine bay. Thanks for all the replies, keep them coming.

It does look as though I should look at my sink/hob unit design and give it an overhang over the full width bed.

  15. Head over engine bay, just have to be prepared for a few bumps from overhead locker - even though you know it's there, still catches you out (frequently!) :(

Our spare wheel is on front of van so head towards tailgate. We use to bump our heads but don't seem to anymore :)

We have friends that sleep other way round, just seems wrong to us - but they do have spare wheel and cupboards so I guess it's down to space - when their child was small they made a small hammock to go over the wheel and into the cupboard, but now the've added a poptop.

  17. Head to cab end but can still operate inside tailgate release with a foot.

Head over the engine and pillows propped against tailgate for reading in bed.

I banged my head several times on our first camping trip so the overhead locker became designer firewood as soon as we got back home. Never refitted one and don't miss the storage space at all.

  19. Sometimes sleep in the roof as well but with it being canvas its like a tent so can hear everyone slagging you off in the morning for being loud.

  20. Head over engine bay because;

    Its warmer.
The bed is stronger there to support my weight
I can dangle my feet as I'm tall
Easy exit out of the tailgate in the morning
    :)
