I have this guage, it's never moved. Want to get it fixed/wired up.
Question what temp does it measure? Oil or engine?
If oil I'll get a dipstick sender and wire it up.
If engine or other where do I wire it to?[IMG]

  2. What does the plug on your oil drainer look like?

  7. Certainly looks like an oil temp gauge a 150°C one too.. most of them are the repurposed 170°C ones from newer VWs and Audis.. sender most likely in the oil drain plug or inspection cover plate on the bottom of the engine

    Daft question.....

I wire this up with a temp sender (Sump plug one now) so.......
When is it healthy temp, when is it bad temp?

Below 80 is bad, above 120 is bad, anywhere in between is fine but where you live, you’ll be lucky to get the oil hot enough in the winter so don’t be surprised if the gauge hardly moves.

    Old but still valid.

  10. Some say 100 to 115°C... ours is always higher but that might change when I put the right sender in...

  11. Is there any wiring to the back of the gauge? Is there any wiring in the engine compartment?

Yes in the engine bay....slowly I'm tracing back wires unconnected to see where they go...so far some just end under the bus.
Plenty of wires as the bus used to have an air conditioning unit and a tow bar.

If there are wires in the engine bay I’d fit a dip stick sender to a type 1.

  14. Ooh fancy... air conditioning! Ours has manually operated air conditioning levers mounted on the doors...

    This
I use to have a sump one and it was always reading low and wasn’t as reactive

  16. x3 for a dipstick sender. Assuming it matches the gauge.

  17. Actually, it may be a rectal thermometer

How do I know if it 'matches the gauge '?

Surely what it measures depends on what it’s wired to?
