What's the best stainless steal exhaust for my 1600 Westy?

VS a bit overkill for a stock 1600? VS stock is good up to 125 HP (I think). Your 50HP stock engine doesn't need this though I think @Beaver has one fitted to her 1600.
The stock looking SS ones are supposed to be good, I've fitted a few and they're apparently good up to 100HP. They sound quite quiet IMO, where a 4:1 header and backbox will drone noisily at cruising speed in my experience.

I went vintage speed so if I ever do decide to make my engine bigger I won't have to change the exhaust again.


And it makes my bus sound faster

 

you can spec the flanges for the heat risers on the Vintage speed system also. give Dan a call he is a very helpful guy. also Check out the Bluebird Customs stainless system. also, if you go Vintage Speed, make sure you get one compatible with a towbar if you have one.

 

i cant understand why the empi one's are called 'quiet pack'. i have the 4 into 1 with twin boxes on my 1641 engine and it scares small children with the noise, plus the 4 into 1 ceramic part is starting to flake off so wont be long before it rusts away peacefully. as @zed says at a cruising speed of 55/ 60mph the drone can be hard on the ears. i do like the look of the standard stainless one when i get round to changing mine.
