    Cheers in advance people!

  6. I decided on a stainless one this year also - even though they are expensive I am in for the long term with the van and buying a stock repro one every 3 years is annoying!
    So I purchased this one:

It appears to be well made however I did have to 'persuade' the pipes to line up a little with the outlet of the heat exchangers (it was quite a bit out!!) otherwise it apears to be good. Its a teeny bit louder than the original but not much - a lower sounding growl rather than the usual tat tat tat!! But lets see how it lasts?

    llo Alex,

I am looking at the £282 system - it's going to be fitted to my van when I have my engine re-conditioned in Jan.

Will I need any other parts to go with it?

I will give you a call just after Christmas.

    Cheers

That's maybe because you need the HX's loose when fitting the exhaust. Sliding them on the studs with the nuts loose will gain quite a lot of adjustment.

  10. I have a stainless tailpipe and standard box from JK on mine - fitted last June and stainless pipe looks good.

  11. Get those horrible alloy fresh air tubes as there is no preheater chambers on this exhaust, so they have to run underneath the tinware hence paper ones will get a soggy bottom!

  12. Thanks Zed , yes I did loosen all of my nuts when I was installing it but still needed some persuasion ! Its in anyway and looks shiny

Do these suggested exhausts fit Devons / Danburys and other 1600 buses or just Westys ;)

I run the JK Stainless Single quiet pack. Very similar if not identical to the VWH item.

It needs drilling for manifold heater tubes although the flanges are present . A git to do using something like a Dremel as a small grinder.

Both the card and the aluminium air tubes burn through touching the header. Get a couple of metres of exhaust wrap as it was suggested to me on TLB. Use that to protect the air tubes by wrapping the header near the tubes..
And work out a trick to get the tubes through the tinware without slicing through. I use the stock through tinware hose joiner with a long hose above the tin and a short bit below the tin.

That single quiet pack is better flowing than stock. With a progessive carb it really livened up my bus. It seems to have a resonance near 4500 rpm so the combination rapidly goes through 4500 if you dont watch out.

  15. I have the original from back in the day piper exhaust that those are copied from
If the modern copies are as good and as well flowing then they are a great replacement for the stock system:thumbsup:

Edited to add the preheat pipe connections are not the best placed on the copys ive just noticed:(

  16. Perhaps I should go for the Vintage Speed exhaust - what do they fit like? And are they worth paying all the extra money for?

  17. Isnt that vintage speed one made in Thailand or somewhere?
Either way whatever you choose, if you intend to keep your van long term it makes sense to go stainless, like I said the repro stock ones always rot inside out in no time at all, especially if you use the van all year round.

    They’re made in Taiwan.

  19. Hmm suppose as long as the stainless steel is decent?

They’re made from 304 stainless steel and according to most reviews they are one of the very best quality exhausts you can buy.
