What would you have done?

  1. I dont beieve I would have shot him. I think I would have stuck to my training and the rules laid down for me and my soul would have been better for that. The guilty party stepped outside what is deemed as acceptable and will have to take whats coming to him. From what I have gleaned from reports there was no firefight betwen the accused and his colleague and the deceased and his, so it wasnt done in the heat of battle!

That said I have to wonder about his state of mind!

  2. You always have to be level headed and cool ,I have seen policemen/soldiers get carried away in the moment ,this should never happen, you are not the judge ,even of your facing your worst enemy...

This apsect of "war" has always confused me. The way the powers that be have it organised with carp like the Geneva convention to make it "ok" makes me ashamed to be a human being. It's war - lots of people die including the innocent. Making rules for it is done to make war more paletable for those that actually do the fighting on behalf of the rule makers. Xmas footy in the trenches is a good example - clearly none of the humans involved wanted to be there shooting one another. If we are really all created equal all those people should have and could have walked the other way.

Far better to have no rules at all and see it for what it is, then maybe less people would volunteer to join in and there wouldn't be so many? Pie in the sky in know.

As for this particular killing, it'll be one of many, not just one bad egg. The one bad egg is propoganda from our side and many helmet camera's will have been mysteriously broken as suggested above. IMHO to think otherwise is burying your head in the sand.

  5. Its a toughie. its only because it was filmed it came to light. i should of imagine under the circumstances. and the conditions its hard to keep safe and do your stuff your ordered to do, when you have a prisoner at hand. admitting he broke the geneva convention on tape was his downfall im afraid.
and at the end of the day 3 comrades together in arms should of made the decision. what was best, destroy the film, or face the consequences.
he was under orders. he should of pleaded guilty under mental stress. personally myself in that position, i would not be taking prisoners...

They are suppose to be trained professionals and as such should been given the training and tools to act in a professional way this is even more so given his rank.

He knew he was doing wrong and it was not in the heat of a fight so i don't think he has any excuse to stand on and hopefully his actions will not damage the work of the thousands of other service personal doing such a hard job.

What would i do in that situation i couldn't say but i would hope i would be more professional

  11. Whilst not condoning this, it's very easy for us safe here in our nice little homes to say this guy shouldn't have done and condemn what he did, who truly knows what was going through his mind at that precise moment. If we had experienced the same as him over the past years then we might have acted similarly, who knows. As ex-RN I can say is that those RMs I have ever met or served with I would have trusted my life to them and still would.

I know what the last thing to go through Terry Talibans mind was

    A bullet.
