What type of roof is this?

Its an early pre Moonraker Devon roof to be specific, JK do a roof cap and they have uprated struts that may cure your problem

Sorry to be a pedant, but moonraker is the camping conversion which devon used early on, then dropped then started using again in the late 70's. They did the flat straight up pop top which leaks, then the single piece straight up pop top from the mid 70's, and then then side elavating full length roof which was called the Double Top. You could order either so a moonraker camper could have 3 possible pop tops over the years. I must get out more.

Thanks for that, I have had both the roofs, the early flat top and the later curved one where all the fibreglass pops up (even had one of the side opening double tops as well), both the pop straight up ones had their problems, the early one leaked and the late one scratched the roof

I've had all three as well, although i've only just got the double top on my project van and haven't camped in it and i only had the fibreglass straight up one for a few months before i sold it. I've got the early one on my own long term van and it leaks like a sieve every couple of years i have to re-seal all the rivets on the top. I like the smaller roofs though, you can still see the shape of the metal roof which you can't with the double top, westie, viking etc.

I agree, I love the look of the pop tops where you can see the front and back of the metal roof, the Martin Walter is my fave, unfortunate, (I don't really mean that) I have two kids so stuck with a late Westy roof.
