Hiya all, Taking a trip later on today in 74 late bay with a air cooled engine, to get interior fitted. We have to hit the dreaded M25, which I am expecting to get held up in traffic. Obviously at stand still the air flow is restricted, so how do you prevent it from over heating? Any help will be greatly appreciated
Just let it run it will cool better in standing traffic than driving it fast believe it or not............ there's a gert big fan running.
no, these vans were made for worldwide markets where the m25 is a run to the shops..... take australia or brazil for example where it gets proper warm....... if your van overheats in traffic ticking over then a new interior is your least worry.
As long as you have all the tinware, all the seals in place & your thermostat is fitted/flaps held open... Relax & enjoy life in the slow lane
I was stuck in a jam last year trying to get off Latitude music festival, just ticking over and slow moving for 2 hours on a very hot day. This was my first experience of a jam in a air cooled with no temp gauge, it was fine, no problems, even stopping for petrol and stating hot was ok. It has taken me awhile to get my head around to cool the engine just leave in running at tick over and it should cool down. I have a type 4 with the snail fan and did wonder if running that fan would help to cool down but others have said not a good idea. Hope the m25 is not to busy, remember if you are using the crossing you can prepay or by 12 midnight the following day but do not know the charge for a campervan.
Your aircooler is better cooled at idle than a watercooler. Don't believe this myth that they "always overheat".
Spent Five hours in mine today travelling to Chelsea and Back in mostly stop , start traffic . Checked the oil temp when i got home with a Barbecue probe thermometer and it read 85 degrees C . Well pleased as i've not had it on the go for that long before , plus it started again on the button .
