I'm thinking of replacing all my fuel lines on my crewcab and I have a couple of questions :- 1, Any recommendations on best place to purchase, type or brand. 2,The carbs are weber can anybody off the picture's tell me the type and size ? ( I may refurb the carbs at the same time ) thanks.
I could very well be mistaken, photos can be deceiving, are you certain they are Weber's? Edit: Ah, I can see Weber on the pump jets now At a guess, fuel lines will be 7.6mm. Can you see anything printed on the pipe?
The expensive answer for fuel hose is do a search on here for Ethanol resistant hose in the size you need. You can spend a small fortune on that stuff. Having said that, even if you have 7.6mm to the carbs there might well be a small run of 5.6mm from the tank to a filter or the mechanical pump, it all depends on your setup. The cheap answer is use decent R9 grade hose from a reputable supplier and check it every year and replace all of it every three years. R9 hose should be perfectly adequate, but it does appear to perish in our Bus' sooner that it should. In about a decade you will have spent about the same using 3 lots of R9 versus one lot of super duper stuff. You pays yet money and takes your choice.
How many peeps with new or any modern car check fuel lines every year and replace every 3 ? None , no one does .. Gates barricade fuel hose
How many modern cars roast their fuel lines at 120C? As seen above the cylinders when you stop at a service station. . Not many unless they are about to catch fire... The heat gets rubber as much as what flows inside. Gates wont leak but the outer will go crusty.
I'll try Gates, then, instead of R9, cheers. I'm certainly not paying £90 for the fancy stuff. I suppose the size put me off do Gates sell 7.6mm?
That's certainly what I have observed, crusty, and swollen, I still some of the evidence on the garage floor, I mean in the dustbin.
On a T1 the fuel line run comes across the top of the engine to the fuel pump in the middle. Which was originally run through a steel pipe, for good reason, as it runs across the head and cylinder. That pipe gets replaced with roasty rubber by now. Thats why I have the Goodridge 200 motorsport multi fuel hose.
If you zoom back a bit you might see a size Three years, personally I would remove it check it along its length a replace if needed. As @mikedjames said, it goes crusty.
