T 5 if you want class and no money. I love driving mine but when i dropped mine off for an mot was looking at what you get for your money in the vauxhall and ford world, well you get a newer van less miles and two off them for one VW. When talking to my mate we is a post office mechanic, has comment was forget vauxhall if you want a reliable van go for the ford transit in his years in the post office they have been the most reliable.
No big big deal but thePaisley store don't thou ive since heard they will order one in if asked, its like my pal ,mechanic ,self employed and seriously kitted out re tools ,we were chatting the other day re this modern tools for modern vehicles subject and of course the several hundred pounds he laid out for the Snap on timing lamp many years ago was no doubt money well spent but now, ?practically obsolete re use(unless someone shows up with a bug/bus(which he loathes with a passion)
I ve got a 99 T4, not particularly modern I ll admit. I got it cos folk kept saying how reliable they are. Load of Marmitee! Unless those same peeps had incredibley Marmitee T2s. Good mpg but lekies poor and brakes keep binding. Mk1 Polo on the cards in the future. Forget modern vans, 20 yards from a computer and you re without a paddle. Old Skool Rools
You've got the wrong motor factors then! Roy's Autos just down the road from here is proper old school and sells everything! Halfords also do clamps, timing guns etc.
Yup the local motorfactors is crap if i have to use one i go further away They are the ones i used when i was stationed up this way when i was in the raf as they gave a forces discount When i asked about an ex forces discount they were happy to do stuff for trade price for me Living up here is very hard obtaining certain bits and bats without driving miles or paying well over the odds Thankfully the internet has most things available for delivery that i need I suppose its just the way thing are and i have to either move closer to a large population centre or live with it Anyway back on track about modern vans
i got a disgusted look off the girl on the till of local halfords when i asked where the feeler gauges were. good job i know the manager or may of been arrested, i'll just find things myself in future if i'm allowed in....
There is a Russian company called UAK who still make a van called a model 452 or nicknamed the breadloaf - it is reliable and easy to work on , it will go anywhere and frequently does - It looks like this --->> i DO WISH PEOPLE WOULD PAY ATTENTION!
That's what the support guys used in Long Way Round with Ewan Mcgregor and Charlie Boorman. The Russian guys not the British guys with the poncy L200'
If the syncro bay went into production I would love to see a side by side test between the two I bet the spares availablity is a lot less for them in the uk compared to the bay A good condition and well working/serviced bay is such a good allrounder that can be worked on at home with reasonable spares availability I dont think theres a modern equivelant Its let down by poor fuel economy and lack of power though
So sorry everyone ,I should have been more specific with my last post, thus >the Halfords in the town called Paisley do not have the stuff I asked for a while back, some parts they will order in for you if you know they will order parts in for you,if you ask them too, o.k.a. ordering via the Internet?as most big brand Companies have an ordering system based on bar code scanning ,i.e. that which is selling well is automatically re ordered it requires said items to be in store, for sale to kick start(can"t believe I typed that) the system into ordering same .
I'm a builder and have had a Citroen dispatch(written off as the injector pump went on it and cost more to replace than the vans worth), Vauxhall vivaro (not a bad van but the gearboxes were suspect) and now drive a transit on a 59 plate. None of the above could I do extensive work on as my knowledge wouldn't allow me. As I'm off the tools a lot more nowadays I think I might get myself a mk1 caddy pickup as ill be able to do anything I want to that and should keep going forever if looked after.
