What front seats are best??? Going to the scrap yards tomorrow.

  1. Hi all, I'm after advice and ideas for front seats, I'm going for a look around the local scrap yards tomorrow to see whats available but would like to find out before I go what ones fit the best, I was told Saab by a few people but looking about in here lots of you seem to think they sit to high and I've not got the longest legs in the world. Our van has been changed to some sort of bench seat by the previous owner but I'm finding it way to high and my head is touching the head lining and am struggling to fully depress the clutch. I looked at a nice set of Porsche 997 seats on eBay but don't know how easy they are to get the runners to fit in, does it matter or is it a case of just making anything I get fit in???

Advice is welcome and will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

  2. Look out for MR2 seats too - I've heard that they are nice and low.

Basically you're looking for any seat that has a nice low base, so low slung sports cars seem to be the way forward. Porsche ones are popular for campers because of how low they are. Seats out of a fairly standard saloon or hatchback generally seem to sit far too high, and that's why they cause problems.

I've got Volvo seats and I'm about to remove them because they're too high.

  3. Hadn't thought about the mgf seats, just looked on fleebay and there seem to be a few to pick from, the mr2 sounds another good option, thanks guys. I take it that whatever ones I buy just to make sure they have runners attached and then just finding a way to attach them to seat pan??? Is there a particular size between rails that fits better?

  4. dont know if they will fit but mx5 seats are low...

  5. Just looked on fleebay again and there certainly plenty to choose from on there if I can't find anything tomorrow then. Thanks for the advice so far peeps, keep it coming please.

Anyone tried to fit porsche boxster seats???

Heres a picture of the MGF seats, I've gone for these as they are not too modern looking, and have fairly low base.

MX5 seats are low, but expensive, and the early ones have speakers in the headrests 8)

Porsche seats are a good choice, but again seem to attract some serious money.

  7. They look great, will defo keep my eyes out for some like that, well I'll see what tomorrow brings and let you know how I get on. Thanks for the tips.

  8. Well I've taken the plunge and gone for a pair of Porsche Boxter seats, seem quite a popular choice from looking about on the site. They are currently sitting waiting to be fitted so I'll update with a pic once they are in and let you all know how easy (or not) they were to fit, going to wire them in as will need it for the tilt adjustment, again in theory should just be a live and return feed via the fuse box.

If anyone has fitted a set already and has any top tips please let me know, help is always welcome.

ooo they will look great, lovely colour!!

  10. Thanks, can't wait to get them into the van, they're actually more of a brownish red than they look in the pic, but will look at getting them recovered next year maybe to match in with the rest of the planned interior, going for a two tone red/cream interior, should have all the door cards and rear seat cushons ready in a month or two from the trimmers.

MR2 seats have speakers in the headrests i think? they would be cool

  12. Love them, would look great in my van.

  13. Jag bench seat out of the back of an xj8 cost me a £10.00

Took me a morning to make the brackets and fit

  14. Got Saab leather seats in mine.£10 each from a dude in petrol station. A straight swap only had to drill one hole. Very comfy.

  15. I too have a bench seat which means I bang my head and have to look out the bit at the top of the window that the wipers don't touch. I've seen a pair of corsa seats cheap - would they go in ok?

  16. I read that XJS seats are good, anyone know how easy they are to fit into a Bay??

  17. ive heard that ford galaxy seats fit well too. I think they swivel so good for you no bulkhead types

  18. Someone cut the runner out on my bus and secured these rover 800 seats in place by 4 bolts, still able to move forward and back but they are tall high and nasty

I think I will need to buy some seats and seat frames for it to be safe
