The missus and I just got back from a week away in our Westy. Whilst away I saw a damp patch under the bed (the Ply wood which rests on the floor pan). I decided to remove the sink, cooker, and bed to find the root cause of this damp patch. Since owning the van I've never up-rooted the flooring. Yet to my horror there was 9mm ply wood underneath 6mm ply wood (in parts) underneath the lino(sp?). I've sourced the cause of the damp patch, but I ask: do you have anything other van ply on your floor, or are there breathable alternatives?
I have 9mm of marine ply. under this I have some of the thin insulation for laminate flooring, the foil backed stuff. On top I have a very cool set of tiles from madmatz.
I've got my hands on a few sheets of 12mm marine ply, some of that thin laminate floor insulation & some wood effect vinyl snaffled from a job at work! Gonna be fitting it all next week, yay! Robo...
You have standard westy floor. Damp not caused by the floor, probably your rear 1/4light leaking - check out the stain on the ply card underneath it?
i filled all the existing bolt holes with fibreglass, sprayed the floor with hammerite, waxoyled it, chucked down some ikea laminate flooring underlay with 12mm ply then lino on top.
I have carpet between the ply and the lino, I guess on of the PO's wanted the chequer board lino and just laid it on the carpet that was there before. There's is little give in the floor that makes it soft under foot, but not as much as you would expect, I think its car type carpet not house carpet.
9 mm medium density foam (similar to camping mat foam) with 8 mm diamond board on top and adhesive vinyly tiles on top of that.
Hi Robo, I just got a bit of aluminium angle from b and q and screwed it down along the exposed edge. Nick
Silver backed sleeping roll (cheap of ebay) glued down with spray fabric stuff, 6mm ply then bamboo tongue and groove. Realy tough If it gets too scrathed up sand down and re varnish (comes treated. I'm eventually doing a bamboo beach hut theme so goes well. Cheers s
