  1. Just broke down , it pays to have a few tools on board and to read books n threads on here too, yeh you can say get an AA card or what ever but ........................................... its a better feeling if you can sort it yourself and it can save you a few hours /quid and a lost journey , im no geek but i read alot of threads and like to try n sort stuff myself if i can.
IT Cut out on me going up the bizzy old thanet way , couldnt get it started so put me red triangles out to at least keep the "nutters off me" as it was mad to say the least. , I had a think , i had to put my bus away in a hurry whilst doing a little service in the week and had fitted new fuel filter so i knew it was prob fuel hoping i hadnt got bit of crap in me jets or something , i pulled fuel pipe from pump to carb and checked no air block turning it over with ignition off so it didnt fire up n squirt petrol every where .Well fuel was coming thru . So put pipe back on ,turned it over still not firing up , so i whipped out the jets gave it a little blow with can of air i carry . Stuck jets back turned key n off he went.

BUT whilst i was doing this a motor bike pulled up , i asked him if he was ok , he said yeh bud just checking your ok, if not ill go home and get some tools , oh i said" have you got one"? yeh early 1970 had it twelve years , Luckily i didnt need him , but he stayed and had a chat and made sure i was ok before he went off on his way , just goes to show what a great bunch we are doesnt it , he didnt have a pipe or slippers either :D. Just taken it for a blast n filled up n seemed fine . How many other motorists do that huh :worship:.

Motorcyclists tend to look out for each other, I always stop if I've got time.

Never seen another VW broken down so never needed to stop.

The electric power assist steering guys stopped when I was sticking my roof down on the way back from followes open day which was decent of them!

Is there a highlighted version of this tale as I can't be added to read that much. :)

Barny broke down, Barny fixed it, motorcyclists are good eggs. The end.

  11. Barney broke down. A motorcyclist showed him his helmet. Barney fixed his van and went for ice cream.

  16. Bunch of nice young crusties in a v rusty bay, just driven down from hebden bridge and it cut out on roundabout on the Westway, London......tail back for a mile.

I couldn't leave em, so pulled in front. 'It just cut out and won't start.....AA said two hours.'.......

Got out tow rope, pulled em for a bit and bumped it......started nicely....just flat battery, not charging right .told him to keep pressing the peddle at the lights etc etc to not cut out, ......they so happy, other motorists happy too no delays, me warm glow for little input......I love VWs for this kind of thing!

Yeh, ,if its a T5 California, it will have got water in the electrics through leaks in the poptop - according to the AA man who recovered me and the bus when the rocker arm springs popped off the end of No2 exhaust.

He said he had recovered two wet and rotting T5 Californias and one Bay (me) that day.

  20. Just had an AA chap out as a fuel pipe came off and started pumping petrol al over the engine whilst diving back from Van Jamboree. Turned out he used to own a bus and had the same problem a couple of times. He still loves going to the shows and attending to air cooled motors. Top.
