  1. Thanks Flakey for digging that out. I have taken on board the comments on here so my plan is to continue with the EMPI purchase however I have listened to what is said so am going to keep my eye on ebay and maybe vw shows next year to see if I can find an original VW Carb.

At the moment mine has been fitted with a H30/31 which Is incorrect for the engine totally so im advised. So at the moment my priority is hopefully get the engine back in the van and running then I can see what else is needed to be done before mot which is likely to be best part of next year before in a state to take it for one.

Money is tight with lots of jobs to pay for and although I appreciate I could end up buying a carb twice you never know and lets hope when there is less urgency to find one I may just find that bargain auction for a original.

    Thanks again

  3. you will still need to know what your doing when you set it up and have everything else , timing valve clearences etc etc tickerdee boo before you do , them bocars are ok if you set um up right , single carb can be at least done without specialist equipment like twns etc.

  4. Hi, i recommend you buy the made in mexico one from flakey, as they are a good carb.Quality was still good, and will not be as worn as a 40 plus year old solex.

A new Bocar is probably OK.
I binned mine as it got to the point there was no adjustment left in it.

  6. EMPI quasi 34 pict 3 will work provided things like alignment and bore size of the slow running jet are checked for accuracy oh and the choke stepped cam may be a bit misshapen messing up its operation. Once those sort of built in faults are rectified it works quite well. Nearly forgot, the two O rings for the adjustables may be oversized and useless.
