  1. I have a '79 Vw Bus, and it came with the factory rubber mats/flooring. I have seen some really interesting flooring options people have done with there Buses. I've seen wood flooring, laminate flooring, cork flooring, even tiled flooring. I'm considering changing my current factory flooring, but would like something practical, for the application. Something that can handle foot-traffic, doesnt mind getting wet, easy to remove, or replace in necessary (if that's possible), etc... So show us what you got! Pictures, tutorials, questions, examples, ideas, thoughts, you name it! Very interested in what folks have done, or thought about doing. Let's see how creative we can get!!!

    Even take my poll!

  3. Wow! That is a sweet looking floor! How did you install the ends of the flooring? Did you just but it up to the ends, or did you use some type of molding wrapped, or filler?

Easy! only problem was back in the day the only 4" chess board was diagonal so you had to buy a big bit and cut a square to fit out of the middle, if you look under the bed, fridge and cupboard a small bit in each corner is missing!

Just stuck down onto a ply base with the joins just butted up i think i used high temp spray glue to make it easy to get up if needed
its been down 3 years now with no issue and that's with 2 springers jumping in and out

  8. Personally, I think it all depends on the type of use it's likely to see....vinyl, lino, laminate, carpet, etc. will all wihstand a certain amount of abuse....good quality stuff will wear well...I'd be tempted to use bathroom grade laminate flooring in a bus.

I've used Flotex in mine as it's a halfway house between carpet and vinyl....I managed to get a contract grade end of roll for reasonable money (Flotex aint cheap)...I also bought a roll of really good quality grained rubber matting, from these guys to do the cab floor, with enough spare to make overmats for both the living area, the cargo deck and the Rock n' Roll seat (in bed mode)...these can be chucked in/out as and when needed....

  10. Hi Pie
Just picked up on this thread and we're new to T2's. We're looking to replace our vinyl flooring and have seen several examples of black/white 'chess board' but I thought these were 9 x9 lino tiles. Do you know if the sheet or tile still available.
Also does anyone know the veneer used in Devon interiors -- ours is '74 and we'd like to return the over--painted fittings to something near original -- Light or Mid Georgian Oak?
    Any help gratefully received!

  12. In the back I'd go for lino as it is cheap and easy to maintain / replace. In the front I'd prefer the original rubber mats. I do like @matty 's cork tiles though, reminds me of a mates kitchen floor from years ago :)

  13. it's where to find the black/white chess board, though. In the fron we have made to measure carpet. with individual carpets over that

Lino, the proper stuff not the soft plastic stuff is not cheap, it cost me over £100 to do the rear of mine.

  16. Yeah, I agree - a good flooring is worth paying for, for longevity:) Some good quality vinyl ones aren't too badly priced though I suppose I meant those were fairly cheap.

I did mine years ago, you need to find 4' squares the other sizes don't look quite right!
