I'm going to fit one of these in the oil pressure relief screw hole, Type 1 engine, it's one of the best places to get a true reading, Apparently  But can you see how short it is

Iv'e also found a longer one , same thread size but much, much cheaper but it's longer, does anyone know if it would foul anything if fitted, is there anything up there that will hit it or cause damage .

  2. I might be wrong but the top one replaces the cap on the relief but you still have the relief valve and spring so the bottom one would stop the relief working if you could compress the spring that far.

I wondered if the spring would slide over the sensor and still work, iv'e not opened it up yet to look what's up there, it's only 15mm long

  4. I wouldn't say it's a good idea to restrict oil flow in the main galleries.

Would it restrict it being only 15mm long

  6. What Case do you have? My AS41 universal case has a blanking plate for the type 3 filler. Allegedly this is a good place to get an accurate reading. I have my VDO sender in there tapped into a thick blanking plate that I bought from Coolair.

  7. did you fit one of the longer ones?

  8. Is there a fitting that could be put in the oil line to the filter head that could take one of these or preferably the sump plug one that I've already got?

Nope, I bit the bullet and bought the shorter more expensive one, it's not fitted yet

  10. I winced when I saw the price. I've already got a sump one and would like to use that in-line but I've a feeling that it will be just as expensive by the time I buy a fitting for it.

No idea, Unless the usual suspect Vw dealers here are all running round in big cars and live big houses ;) That long one I found was only £7 @Alex VW Heritage may be able to tell us

  15. That price is without Import duty, warehousing costs, staffing costs, insurance etc etc etc.......... Also if you buy from the states and it gets lost or becomes faulty you have no warranty, that is not the case if you buy from the UK. Also you buy from us and its a 3 days service max. (thats using free web postage).

We are £36.66 inc delivery and your late bay discount:

    https://www.vwheritage.com/shop/V323064/vdo-oil-temp-sender-oil-pressure-relief-screw-not-1-7-2l/

That ebay link comes to: £23.83 you then get charged import duty of 3.5% and then VAT at 20%

My crappy maths gets me to £30.86, so yes in theory works out less than £6 cheaper and also at your risk, uninsured, with no warranty.

  16. You shouldn't pay duty on anything under $100...

I paid £23.83 posted from the US, without postage it was £14.79, they are making a profit on this and running a company  the same thing but in other sizes cost about £7.oo but even the Yanks add a bit of scene tax on
