Hi, my T2 bay 1974 has been running fine but when driving up a steep incline it lost all power and I had to be towed up on to flatter ground and then able to continue with my journey. Any ideas? Cheers Sent from my SM-J510FN using Tapatalk
How long before it started again ? And was it perfect afterwards ? Just wondering if you have old the chestnut of the paper sticky label off the fuel sender sitting on top of the fuel outlet in the tank and blocking it. Stopping the engine and waiting lets it float away when the suction of the petrol pump stops.
Do you have points in the distributor. I got stuck in a steep valley towing a trailer- couldn't get back up in either direction. The points gap had closed almost to nothing. I fixed it by eye, no feeler gauge, and off I went.
Mechanical pump? Uphill - foot down, large fueling need and if something wrong with the supply then it will splutter (if it's dual carbs it will lose two cylinders just before the other two join in). Level off, don't need so much fuel for speed/revs and the pump catches up again. Check for pump pressure (find a meter - should be 0.35 kg cm2 on the outlet), filter blockage, pipe blockage.
Filter blockage is actually my guess. It might have enough fuel getting through normally but when you put the boot down on hills there may not be enough getting through. (ask me how I know)
Thanks for that, going to have New set of points fitted shortly Sent from my SM-J510FN using Tapatalk
Not as yet, Garage Mon to have a look, this is the only prob otherwise running fine could be timing issue, fuel pump ? Cheers Sent from my SM-J510FN using Tapatalk
You could have done them in the time it took to book it in with the garage. They probably only need adjusting. If you've got a screwdriver, go out and give it a go....
