WANTED Type 4 Thermostat

  1. I found that the PO removed the thermostat and all the bits associated. I have all and a promise of the pulley but the thermostat i have is knackered!

    Anyone have one of these?

    I haven't had the bus long and still learning but I believe the 1600cc thermostats are different, heat value and cable fitting, so it needs to be one from a type 4 engine; cheers.
     
  2. you have to use a type 1 thermo as type 4 ones are NLA...

    The heat difference is approx 10c... so better than not having a thermo at all :)
     
  3. As Paul said - you have to use the type 1 thermostat. You do apparently have to modify it slightly though.

    My thermostat system has been completely removed too and I've now just about managed to get all the missing parts and will hopefully be very soon be trying to fit it all.

  5. I bought one of his thermostats and they are well made. Only problem is that they are made to order and it can take upto 6 weeks for delivery.

  6. Thanks for the link and comments, yep flippin pricey but understandable if made to order. I also found the page showing how to repair them. Mine has a pin prick of a hole so I'm gonna have a go at fixing that before shelling out for a new one. In the meantime I'll use the lower temperature value one, cheers!

    Mind you I'm still in the market if one surfaces :)
