WANTED Type 4 engine needed urgently to replace my seized W coded one.

Discussion in 'Late Bay Parts Classifieds' started by janerodger, Jan 25, 2014.

  1. Just got my 1973 and it has a hole through the block. Any size considered as long as it will fit, preferably complete as I am not knowledgeable enough to do mods.
Happy to give you old one for parts if any use.
Also need front panel, rear panels, shocks and interior if anyone can help. Thanks.

P.S. Forgot to say my budget at the moment is only around £500.

  2. complete engines turn up pretty regularly....the associated components can be a pain to source though...in particular, genuine Heat exchangers (in good nick), and the various bits of tinware to keep everything cool...
If yours looks to be complete, it may be an option to have the engine rebuilt...second-hand cases can be re-machined and many of the internals brought back to serviceable condition.
I'm only suggesting this as an option...a lot depends on your circumstances and whether you intend to do some of the leg work yourself, or throw it in a garage and get someone else to do it. My only issue with buying a second-hand engine is that you may just be buying more trouble down the line....

Plenty of excellent mechanics and engine gurus on here will be able to offer some more insight....ask a question on the Tech page.....
try and stick with the 2 litre though....1600s are a bit weedy IMO

  3. what were you doing for it to hole the block??

There is a 2.0 on the for sale section with all bits etc. about 7 or 8 hundred.

  8. Ah I see.. :)

  9. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

I once braized the main bearings of a transit onto the crank by driving 120 miles up the A1 with no cooling, just hosing the engine down for 5 minutes at every garage. Nearly got to my destination but ran out of open garages as it was getting late.
Funny how your ability to consider the implications improves as you get older. Or maybe not as a £15 engine from the scrappy soon had it going again. :)

  10. I managed to blow up my Ford Probe, con rods straight through sump just by revving it on my drive!
