You can buy them in the UK from Stateside Tuning (new parts tab) for £65.00 + VAT + carriage or direct from Thorsten Pieper in Germany for €55 inc. VAT + carriage. Thorsen is a real nice guy if you want to save some money drop him an email to arrange payment info@tp-technologie.de

There is a current ‘discussion’ on the samba as to whether you need to adjust the geometry or not, most seem to just bolt them on but one guy insists that because the fulcrum point of the screw on the valve is higher you need to shim the pedestal – I’m in the bolt them on camp but check and adjust the geometry as a matter of course using a non-standard cam etc.

  5. Don't know what all the fuss was about! Light polish and a bit of oil.. 250°c guides from freezer didn't even need the hammer slid right in this time.. 2 exhausts and one oversize inlet

  8. Bucket of diesel and a washing up brush to get layers of oily crud off.. Parafin to get diesel oil and last bits off .. Then detergent to get parafin residue off then wire brush and sandpaper to get rust and non moving crud off... Then just rust treatment to seal off before paint.... And get Mrs Deefer to help

which is why handing to a powder coater caked in crud and collecting later without lifting a finger wins hands down. :)

  11. Out of interest.. How much would a clean and powder coat of a set of type 4 tinware set you back?...

Anyone feel free to add your regional cost...

looks like the oil filler is a bit too long

 oh yeah, I blame Mick for misleading us

I think it may be a struggle but could you lift the van up and drop it on bricks, give you a bit more room for manoeuvre?

  18. I might just try and get the arse end up a tad more and maybe a paving slab for the trolley jack. ..

Still got to repair/ clean and paint that engine bay too...

Want to get out in it by the summer. .

Was aiming for this month when we got it.... tad optimistic possibly...

Still hope to get a few pointers at tech enders ...though I have a long walk from a far away corner due to driving a Nissan

I see what you mean about the gravel bed. You might get a bit higher, with any luck.

Every bit done in an evening is less on the to do list..sometimes the list gets longer though :(
