I could and it's been considered - part of the reason I've borrowed the 28's from Dicky rather than buy a set - this can get expensive as you know!
I had a longer drive today - home from work which is country roads - up to 75 at one point. :) I liked it more than yesterday, it seems to go fine up to 5,000rpm, it's MUCH quieter at all rpm (probably a bit rich), the low end is noticeably more solid. Oil temp did what it always does on this journey under thrash conditions. I'm going to put the 32 vents back in next time I have time and some bigger jets now I've ironed out some other faults and see what that's like - I couldn't get it to tick over last time I tried.

  4. were they machined ones ? i`m sure i made him a set !!

No they are cast. I've has a funny day today. I thought "what the heck" and refitted the 32s with the biggest idles I had (58) and some mains drilled out to 1.5mm with a bog standard 1.5mm drill (it was a new one). It was alright! Faster and noisier.
What had been completely throwing me all this time was the undynamically balanced flywheel. Not what you expect when you've paid to have it balanced. Now I'm going round again messing with vents and jets it's all so much easier than before.
I feel pretty sure another rebuild is on the cards with a milder duration cam, less compression and smaller vents in the carbs. Time to grow up. :)
