Type 4 2 litre engine, do i support the gearbox?

  1. Quick question, bentley says support the gearbox when removing the engine, I am sure I read on here that you dont need to, appreciate confirmation of this.

  2. I didn't but the gearbox can move a little and might damage you input shaft. I would recommend a support while removing. Although none was required when reinstalling.

  4. you can see the hanger in this pic... the bellhousing of the box has 2 lugs on it that goes up into the hanger, and a pair of M10 bolts holds it

  6. :lol: the mount isn't that flimsy... mine has had 150bhp through it :lol:
     
  7. Paul is right, I was thinking about the movement when you pull the weight of the engine away from the bell housing and the vehicle rises slightly on its suspension. The box needs no support. Just a bit of care as you separate the parts.
