Mine was the first bay I looked at lol I know they say never buy the first one you view but I just really liked the patina of it and I could see a lot of potential .... plus it was UK RHD so I went for it......was still looking for a splittie up to that point.....didn't even particularly like bays apart from a couple of rat vans i'd seen about hahaha I actually prefer the look of a twin slider now.....they're symmetrical When its hot, you can crack both doors and get airflow that you can't really get with a single door without popping the rear hatch too
Yeah I have noticed the slidin doors go for crazy money!!! Luckily mine came with both sides, the passenger side (rhd) wasn't too bad, repaired it around the window and re skinned it so it's good to go! The lhd side one was in a bad way but I managed to get the eBay bargain of the century a few months back....Cali import door completely rust free for £5!!! That was a good day
Haha sounds like it was meant to be!! I didn't even look at mine... I wasn't looking for a bus, I was just dreaming about having one (dreaming about splits mainly) but I saw this project on vzi. loved the fact it was a uk rhd twin slider and for some reason within a few minutes of looking I had sent the guy a cheeky pm offering him my beetle as a swap! I was trying my luck really but hey if you don't ask you don't get! Anyway he really liked my bug and had to shift the bus so the deal was done over the phone, a week later he turned up with the bus on trailer and we swapped, I knew it was a big project but I also knew I would never have the money to buy a bus so this was a good opportunity!! Luckily it came with the majority of the panels too so it was more about the time and learning. Obviously it's turned out to be alot more work than expected but it will all be worth it! I'm definitely with you on the symmetrical side if things..... Maybe it's an OCD thing hahaha
Mine came with a mint rust free cali RHD slider but its a panel van one and I wanted a window on both sides so..... Was tempted to sell it once the window door is fixed and fitted but i'll probs keep it incase I ever want to convert it back to being a van again......LHD panel sliders aren't too bad to find so its always an option. £5 for a slider is a giveaway! you must've near s**t yourself with excitement when you realised you'd got it for that! lol
Definitely worth keeping that then even if you don't decide to convert back to a panel it's something than can be sold if and when you need abit of cash at a later date! Yeah I wasn't far of that haha, just to make it even better it was only a 15 minute drive away so I was able to collect it!! Almost felt guilty handing over a fiver for it haha
