Toyota mirai hydrogen fuel cell car is it the future?

I don't actually know whether I'm right or wrong, I just threw it in for discussion, but it seems to me that if you add up all the components of the convoy, be it geese or cyclists etc, the net benefit will be zero, otherwise you've got something approaching a perpetual motion machine.

Maybe there's some serious research out there.

 

OK how about this. If the big truck in front and all the smaller cars create so much drag travelling alone, and the net drag of a convoy is less than the individual drags, then there would be a benefit. I think. Maybe that's it.

 

In the 70's someone came up with a methane powered vehicle the methane being made from chicken poo. One of the major fuel companies bought him out and we never saw him or the product again. Don't mess with oil companies.

 

That's why there's all the fuss about 5G, it's one potential mechanism for all the vehicles to chat to each other so they can form the trains and run on autopilot.

 

An urban myth possibly? Back in the 70’s Barnsley sewage works was generating all its own electricity from methane derived from human excrement. The technology had been around much longer though. In London during the war they used to run a fleet of vehicles off methane from sewage.

That doesn’t make sense it must only be for cooling the inside of the trailer and what happens to the nitrogen gas it produces

 

It seems like the nitrogen is stored as a compressed gas and released in the fridge mechanism so as it expands it takes away the heat. The gas will just be returned to the atmosphere is my guess. It's not driving the truck.

 

Well I'm not being funny, but there's no point asking,

'Is this car the future?'
No Pop, it's not
'No, I know it's not, but another one might be'.

Although I don't want to come across as negative and to that end,
I agree that a completely different car may or may not be the future, even if only for 10 minutes.

 

I think not.
I'm in favour of this though as trucks sometimes have to park up and leave their diesel fridge motors running all night.
