My Dad worked on D1 to D10 at Derby then went on to do some of the 45's - then moved into 1 Shop working the cranes in the Roundhouse

a few words? errmmm i'm just a fan of big diesel engines some of the loco's have a very pleasing sound when they are thrashed, it's all about the mechanical stuff really for me, never really a steam or electric fan just like a nice sounding diesel, daft but true.

for me, both my grandads worked on the railways (one a track layer, the other at Derby Carriage & Wagon works) & my Dad work at Derby locomotive works then British Rail Research & my Great Grandad worked at Kings Cross I think, so its in the blood. I guess more than anything its the engineering behind it all that fascinated me, when I was younger I had endless trips round the various maintenance depots. The company I work for was once part of AEA Technology Rail (former British Rail Research) so I ended up spending time at the research labs.

The engineering side of things is great, hence the interest
