Today's OCD question - what colour should bumper brackets be?

I've stripped the rear bumper brackets (again) to repaint them. But what were they originally, black or pastel white?

Can't find any old photos, new ones are black, early bays shown in Bentley are white. This uncertainty is intolerable. Help, please.

I've just gone out with a torch to have a look, mine is red or rust as it's normally known

 

My Dads old van from new were white. Don't listen to @snotty his decor is so last year darling, gold gearbox !!!

 

You've given me an idea. I'll paint them rust colour. You can't get any more original than that.

I'm with @snotty on this, when I stripped the brackets on mine back to metal they only had black paint on them...

 

Hmmm - already in the dog house because I'm out for special romantic wedding anniversary night out and I'm trying to find out what colour to paint some bus parts that you can't see unless you grovel on your back.

I'm tempted by @snotty 's idea that they are really all black. Do you have any further evidence to support this hypothesis?

 

Are you serious about the gold gearbox? Not sure I could take anything seriously after that....
