Personally I have a great respect for people who adopt veganism as a way of life. You will always get idiots who have no particular moral compass, or who haven't actually ever taken a altruistic moral stance on any particular issue who will diss someone who takes a moral standpoint, particularly if that effects their life choices to the extent that it becomes their way of life. Its very difficult to avoid animal products as they are inherent in every day life so not an easy choice id say. Those that mock might wish to look at their own moral compass and whether they mock because they don't understand, because they want the attention or because of their own guilt in possibly not actually taking a principled position on anything in their lifetime.
lol. I used to live with a guy who would buy those freakin pies from the ,local cheap shop and that's all he seemed to eat. He wasn't the healthiest chap. They looked disgusting and smell like dog food! I banned em! my flat, my rules.
Who mentioned the moral high ground? You adopting the low ground. Admission of your own failings or did a vegan once upset you cos he wouldn't eat your pork pie or something?
I believe it was Marie Antoinette who said "Let them eat vegans". We eat less and less meat in our household these days. We are edging towards vegetarianism I think. It will come at some point. As a race we do treat animals pretty shoddily. I think the idea of karma is total cobblers but maybe we do need a taste of our own medicine
Quite a lot of folk become vegan due to allergies as much as those who change ofr moral reasons. It isn't exactly the easiest thing to do, yes there are lots of dairy alternatives but a lot are expensive so vegans end up cooking/baking from scratch. Eating out can be a nightmare, though it is an excvellent excuse to avoid Marmitee holes like Nandos ;-) Me, I eat a bit of meat, but there are two other veggies in my household so I have learnt about some of the wonderful food out that that doesn't contain meat - not an alternative to meat, but instead of. Some folk are very narrow minded with their food.
Speaking as one whose moral compass is less than resolute, may I enquire as to how a vegetarian pork pie can taste of pork?
May I retort! It was merely a joke. Ive never heard of nor come across a Vegetarian Pork Pie, however its likely someone makes one! As for reproducing the flavour of said porcine delicacy then your guess is as good as mine. A friend of mine had a Resolute Moral Compass but he always got lost!
Ah Thank you I was a little uncertain. I've eaten vegetarian dishes a good few times so have no vegetarian aversion but strangely enough large portions of meat ie a good bit of Argentinian beefsteak doesn't appear to like me anymore....must be an age thing.
