Wrapping the heat exchangers retains moisture so they rot even more quickly. I found out the hard way!
Have to admit that this confuses me somewhat, why do they supply them with the wrapping on then? My exhaust has been fitted twice, both by proper vw mechanics, both left the wrapping on - which may explain the large hole in the pipe :/
